It appears that the "Save Libertyland" hasn't been successful in their efforts.

Sadly, this moves the Big Dipper up 1 on the oldest coaster list and another Miller design lost forever.

...and as if you were thinking the folks on GLT are the only ones who care and in case you have been keeping track of the widespread publicity the recent ACE designation to Dipper, here is another article.

It was sad reading through the history of the park in the comments, how like GL the fight for Libertyland is/was.  Carousel and a Miller, group picnics and families driving ~3 hours away to the nearest park...

We really need to get together, find out how to come up with the money, and get something positive done with GL NOW, before we get to this point.

The sad thing was someone (Joyland Inc.) was interested in Libertyland, which closed in 2005, a few years back, but backed out after they got onto the site in late 2006 and saw how bad it was (plumbing and pipes missing etc.). Some interesting background on the park here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertyland

Tearing a chunk out of Zippin Pippin seems an odd way to evaluate its condition.

30 days to clear a park.

Quote:
"Meanwhile, demolition will continue on the remains of Libertyland. Monday afternoon, bulldozers and cranes were at work in a corner of the park near the former Skeeball building.

"The stuff that is noncontroversial, we'll tear it down and clean it up," said Lipscomb, estimating that the work could be done within 30 days."

Wow...if the wood on the Zippin was that far rotted after only 4 years, it scares me to think of the wearing conditions of the BD.

Do you know what's weird?

All of the current Coaster Landmarks are at CF parks.

It is sad to see another park going to the history books!
