| I try to check out other sites too-esp the Kings Island central site. I try not to PO anyone but I WILL correct untrue facts about Geauga Lake and I encourage folks to come to this site and take a look see. I think all amusement park fans should take a look at other sites and see what is going on in the industry-the economy isn't good right now and people should make their voices heard so the park bigwigs realize we can and WILL go somewhere else if we aren't treated well. |

I agree. Is it so hard to understand people grew on this park or are attached to it. Oh if only CP closed down and the same thing happened to GL...boy would people be going nuts just like we are. People have no respect for other amuesment enthusiasts. Its not like Geauga Lake is the only park I'll ever attend... sure I miss it but people need to grow up. _________________ Geauga Lake I will miss you! |

I think it is all rather childish from both sides. But I can agree with them that a lot of the comments made here are a little over dramatic. People take stuff a little to seriously. _________________ Remember......Fan Boys and Haters are always good for one thing. A one sided argument. Which are you? |

I know that this site and some of the posters here are ridiculed by other sites and I really don't give a damn. It sounds heartless and I apologize to those affected by the ridiculous things said about them, heck I'm probably one of them being ridiculed right now, but I don't know them. They don't know me and that's just fine.
Heck I've read on a SFA fan site that they feel Six Flags America is being treated like GL right now. They feel it is being neglected by the company. Rides are being removed and not replaced. I kind of find that interesting and in a way I feel for them. They understand what we were going through. After all the only thing they got this year was a new waterslide. Sound familiar?
Ohioans are very passionate about their amusement parks and a lot of that passion has come out since the closing of Geauga Lake. Until they deal with a similar situation with their home parks they will never understand.
It's not like CF closed a 30 year old park. There's a lot of history that is being wiped out as we speak. For those unfamilar with the park, or only knew it when it was SFWoA, they just don't get it. _________________ On September 21, 2007, a historic 119-year old amusement park had been secretly murdered. Well said GM! I know I have been really upset about this whole mess, I know I have had people tell me it was just an amusement park, but to me and many others it was much more... It was a place to step out of the real real and feel free. A place to take your family and spend time with them making memories that will last a life time! It was a place to forget your worries and stress of everyday life. And as my dad says it was a place to be a kid again! He is 80 years old and is very upset to see how this park is being destroyed with no respect to the history it has in it, It is not about the rides. Its about how another piece of Ohio history is being destroyed so fast that many don't even know it has happened! I have a friend who live in Arizona that did not know it has closed let alone been torn down as fast as it has. He was ver upset about it because he was coming in for a visit in a few weeks and we always would go to Geauga Lake together. Now he doesn't know what to do because he does not have alot of time in Ohio and he doesn't want to deal with the crowds at Cedarpoint. I told him maybe we could go to Waldemeer. _________________ Life is like a rollercoaster. It is full of ups and downs! |

I have a friend who is foaming at the mouth over the loss of the park and Villain.
Keep in mind, she had never been to Geauga Lake until right before it became Six Flags, and hasn't been back since shortly after the Sea World merger. That little bit of time was enough to make this park special to her. |

This park is special to all of us who gives a damn, not the ones that are heartless and only care to party in lines at cedar point! A Live dj in the middle of the line, just reminds me of all the bars we have at every corner in ohio! So sad to see alot of people think that life is only worth a bottle of beer anymore! Ohio is making me sick, me and my wife keep talking about moving out of ohio, the only thing is, it would be weird to not live in akron when you grew up there your whole life, but with the way ohio is going who would care anymore! _________________ (ACFG)Anti-Cedar Fair Group |

We may be conspiracy theorists here, but we are not alone...
Robb Alvey from Theme Park Review recently posted...

It's kind of sad to think that this park was in better hands with Six Flags. And I wonder if with today's new management they would have tried to salvage it had they stilled own it.
IMO, what the park was when it was "Six Flags Worlds of Adventure" is exactly what the company seemed to want in their park profile.
Oh, well....
Everyone thought I was crazy when I said it, but the day it was announced that Cedar Fair bought the park I knew this would be the fate of the park...I just knew it!

And later this...

AND to also purchase new attractions for their other parks at a GREAT price.
How many other Cedar Fair parks have now benefited from the attractions removed at Geauga Lake? Quite a few it would seem. Kings Island, Michigan's Adventure, Dorney Park, Kings Dominion, Great America, etc, etc....
I'm convinced this was the plan from day one when they bought the park. I'm guessing the only reason why they didn't shut it down immediately was they probably had a lot of contracts to fulfil and it was probably cheaper to operate it as a park for a few seasons than it would have been to break any commitments they had going.

To anyone who thinks the "emotional" reactions to the closing of Geauga Lake are strange, fans of Astroworld in Houston had the exact same kinds of reactions during Astroworld's closing and deconstruction in 2005:

That kind of emotional connection generates a lot of revenue in this industry. Kennywood gets that, I'm not sure Cedar Fair does.
The closing of AW led to the expansion of the amusement area at Kemah Boardwalk, which now has about a dozen rides, including a carousel, a ferris wheel and a wood coaster, the Bullet, along with shops and restaurants. I expect to see something similar at some point in Northeast Ohio.

Wow,Skyglider! Looks like they been to hell and back, but it looks like part of there park is going to be saved and opened elsewhere from just browsing alittle threw there forum! I also saw this picture from there and it almost reminds me of Serial Thriller at geauga lake, everyone check it out here http://www.oldastroworld.com/album/slides/DSCN0163.html
I Just wonder if something good will happen in return to all this hell us GL fans have been through. I would love them to either keep big dipper where it is or reopen it at another NE Ohio location to compete with CF agian. _________________ (ACFG)Anti-Cedar Fair Group |

And to top off what Skyglider posted above you should read this thread of when the announcement came that GL was closing.
http://www.sixflagshouston.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2300
Even the people in Houston knew there was something fishy going on and knew the real intent behind CF's decision.
Great stuff.
BTW, TBone, that is exactly like our old Serial Thriller. It even had the same name. It's been stored at The Great Escape in Lake George, NY ever since they took it down. _________________ On September 21, 2007, a historic 119-year old amusement park had been secretly murdered. Never forget it. |

Your right Gunkey Monkey, here is the video with there serial thriller!

Six Flags must have thought we would like to have the same coaster as Astroworld, or maybe the design was cheaper then re-designing a new one! _________________ (ACFG)Anti-Cedar Fair Group |

i agree with this totally..and IMO thrillnetwork boards have become anoth coasterbuzz board...all they do is tear other amusement park fans down...thats y i stopped going to those 2 sites along time ago...the posters are and act like little children.
as i've said on many boards, to me yes it was a plan to eliminate comp.....the point also is outta room, ex. take out a ride to put one in...so now why does cedar fair want to operate 2 water parks so close, and lets not forget about their indoor water park in sandusky as well...i say one iof their next moves in the future will be to close soak city.
more people also are getting a thrill on our pain of the loss of geauga at cedar fair nation dot com as well, and as an above poster pointed out it wouldnt be too funny if
a. they lost their beloved cedar point
b. if this was their "home" park
i have already felt the pain of a lost home park "Idora", and would like to thank the staff and admin. of this site for keeping the memory alive ...thats what HAS to be done...and this site is doing a fantastic job

My thought is who cares what they say about us on other boards.
If it was their park they would all be singing a different tune.
We know old dickeyboy had it out for Geauga Lake, if they can't or won't see the writing on the walls that's their problem not ours. Let them continue to drink their kool-aid, and when one of their park closes or is totally ruined by dickyboy that even if it doesn't close its no fun to attend.
We can be bigger people and sympathize with them. Because you know the way dick is going that's what will happen. _________________ "Be ashamed to die until you have achieved
