This is really not an emergency - but seems to belong under computer help.
I am having the same problem here as I initailly did on OE after getting the new hard drive installed. I check the remebber passoword box - but it is not doing it.
I am using IE7. I have Privacy set to Cusom; with except first party cookes and prompt for 3rd party cookes. (I'll probaly change this later - bfore the crash I had it prompt for 1st party also then added sites to the ok list as needed)
Repa helped me get OE fixed - what do I need to do to fix it here?
Thanks,
Fay |

Fay, IE6 is not saving my password either, but Firefox does. I don't know what caused this, and have not spent time trying to figure it out as it isn't a big deal for me. When I logon to my email account at my ISP's email webpage, it doesn't save my password there either, but it does for MSN Hotmail. Go figure! Seems to be dependent on what website I am on using IE6. No problems with Firefox! If you want to see if there is something that can be set to fix this, I'll do some research as I have time. _________________ Repa

Repa,
It is not really that important. I just thought it worked before the crash but I may be wrong. I am paying more attention to stuff now that I am trying to get things set back up. I haven't tried it with Firefox as I have not reloaded it yet since the crash.
I just figutred I didn't have things set up right. Since I had trouble with OE not saving the password and you helped me there, I just figued there was just a setting i needed to change. Maybe I am wrong and it did not work before either.
Not a big problem.
Thanks,
Fay |

Fay, lost my internet connection for a few minutes. Meant to get right back to you. As I read your post, I had a thought about the autocomplete function and decided to check my settings:
Tools > Internet Options > Content tab > Autocomplete button
There, I noted that everything was checked but the box beside "Prompt me to save passwords," so I checked it, and voila!
When you check that button and logon to a new webpage where password information hasn't been saved before, you will get a window that says "Do you want Windows to remember this password so that you don't have to type it again when you visit this page?" You click Yes, and the next time you visit that web page, the password will be automatically entered when you sign in with your userid.
The reason I haven't chased this down before is because for the last 3 months or so, everytime I did a Windows update, I would either have to logon to hotmail everytime I accessed it, or I wouldn't depending on what month it was. So I thought it was Microsoft messing things up one month and fixing it the next, and didn't pay much attention to it until you asked your question.
On Freepowerboards, checking the box "Remember me" only prevents you from having to logon again if you visit the board and then leave it and go to another website without Logging off, or closing your browser and then coming back to the board later, or even if you leave the board and shutdown your computer without logging off. When you come back, even the next day, you will not have to logon if you did not delete your cookies from the previous session. _________________ Repa

Reap,
Rpea, np, I was not on very long.
I didn't know that was all the box did.
I went out and looked and the Prompt Me to Save Passwords box was already checked. But on the page, I saw something about deleting the passwords for autocomplete entries - so I did that and tried again - and now it works. I have no idea what was there that was keeping it from working. Guess, now I'll have to reeneter all my passwords but that is ok, and so far I don't have many saved.
So again, you come to the rescue. It was a little bit differnt for me, but following you instructions led do the solution.
Not sure what we would do without you here to give the computer advice.
THANKS.
