I would like to be able to watermark my photos. I know there are several tutorials for GIMP. But, I was also wondering about "Free" software for this. i came across one and was wondering if anyone know anything about it.
It is by Manatee Software

Thanks. _________________

Jane,
I have never heard of Manasoft to be honest. I am not sure I fully understand what it does either. From what I see its just simple text it is adding on. If Gimp has both the capabilities to add the simple text plus the digital watermark I don't think it should be necessary to get another program.
Check this article out

Plus you can digitally watermark your pictures through your camera. _________________

CS2 has Digimarc as well... it's a free plugin for Adobe Photoshop... but... you have to get an ID from Digimarc to use it... the cheapest is around 1000 images for 79US$ with 512mb free backup and this one does not offer the Image Tracking.

A non seeable watermark is one that is not visible when you look at the picture. I think you need good graphics software to get at it. _________________

Okay, between GIMP's Signature Tut and Watermakr Tut, I was able to come up with a copyright for me, for now. But I do have a question that will appear stupid to the intelligent.
While working with GIMP on the transfer of the copyright to the photograph, my instructions included the following:
First copy the selected pixels to the "clipboard" and
Second, "Paste Into" which pastes the content of the "clipboard" to the selected photograph.
My question: What "clipboard"? I have two, one is in the Word 2002 on my computer and the other is physically on my desk. I could find no clipboard in GIMP. I will not assume. Is this an invisible space between copy and paste? Thanks. _________________

Whenever you "copy" or "cut" something, it is placed on the "clipboard," a temporary storage area. You can read all about it in this thread:
http://www.freepowerboards.com/geeksmore/geeksmore-about1176.html?highlight=clipboard
If you want to see what you currently have on your clipboard, you can open the Clipbook Viewer by the following in WinXP:
1. Select Start > Run
2. In the text box type "clipbrd.exe" without the "" and click ok. The Clipbook Viewer will appear with whatever the contents of the clipboard is. _________________ Repa
