Yes, it's not just about IE. But, I haven't completely read about everything in it yet, so wait until I can research it some more. I'll get back here in a few days. _________________ Repa

Repa,
I am sure this is not theplace, but because the subjec t is started, I thought I would add to it:
I received my Microsoft Update email today. It said nothing about SP3.
However, when I ran "Microsoft Update" the first item to show was a notice about downloading SP# (recommended) but was considered optional. I could download my updates without doing SP#. I did not download SP3 at this time. I am sure when the next update notice comes out I will get the same thing again "Microsoft recommends downloading Windows XP SP3 (or the update that brings all up to date).
What do you think? _________________

I am not going to download SP3 until I have thoroughly checked it out. There are a lot of reports of problems with this update - but a lot of them date back to the end of 2007. There are a few recent reports since the official version came out that say it speeds things up 10% - especially boot time, but there are also reports of problems. Some who have installed the update have a lot of problems, some a few problems, some don't report any problems. You can do some of your own research and reading by googling "Windows XP SP3 Reviews." Read more than one article, and if you aren't familiar with the site where the article is contained, check it out with SiteAdvisor first. _________________ Repa

Repa,
I have read some reviews and found that the majority of problems are with the initial download and install. Some cannot get the update to install at all.
Also read of a security problem that was fixed in SP2 but resurfaces in SP3. These are some of the reasons I have not downloaded the update. Until it is mandatory, I will wait.
Thanks. _________________

From what little I've had time to read, I agree with you! I will do more research, but it won't be before the weekend or early next week. My plate is kind of full right now. _________________ Repa

I was notified again today about IE Service Pack 3 update. This is the only Update offered in this notification.
Anybody else get notified? Anybody install it? Repa did you ever get it?
Sounds like it will cause more trouble than its' worth. I'm not gonna get it til Repa tells me to. _________________ Thanks!!

I have not been able to find anything yet to convince me that I should download SP3. The only good thing that I've read from one or 2 reviewers is that it speeds up performance somewhat and has some improved security features. Other than that, the negatives appear to outweigh any positives, so far.
If anyone has downloaded WinXP SP3, please let us know of your experience with it. _________________ Repa

I just downloaded it today so I really don't know yet whether or not it was a good thing.

After you've used it for a while, could you please let us know what you think, and any problems or changes in performance that you notice? Thanks. _________________ Repa

Yes Fay, could you please let us know how it is working. Are there any new problems with your computer you didn't have before the install?
How was the install? Most of the problems I have read had to do with the install. _________________

I would like to know as well. I don't know if you remember when I thought I had installed it before? Who knows maybe I did and it didn't install. Anyways I'm trying not to install anything for the time being until I have too...At least until I get this computer fixed...The good thing when I start up if I hit the F2 key just a second after seeing the Blue HP window I don't get that Screen...I'm hoping this is a good thing for many good reasons...
Please keep us informed...
Thanks, _________________

So far I really have noticed any difference since I installed sp3.
It does seem like I had some kind of troulbe the first time I tried to install. I don't think it finished the first time. But the next time I did it, it worked fine.
