Laptop Battery Care/Maintenance
This is a tip from a computer Uncle of mine 
It is not wise to keep your Laptop connected to the electrical outlet at all times. Just like cameras and cell phone batteries overcharging could spent the batteries, with results of it “popping”
There are two options to maintain the battery:
- let it discharge at least once a day
- store it in the fridge for a period of time. (Instruction’s follows)
Why the fridge/refrigerator? It needs to be in a controlled cool temperature... the “crisp bin/drawer” of the fridge is the best place.
Store in the Fridge
- Let the batteries go down to 30% of charge, take it out, put it in a Ziploc and plastic container and then store in the fridge
- Every two to three months, take the batteries out of the fridge let it go to room temperature and pop it back into the laptop.
- Let it charge, discharge, then charge full... then discharge to 30% ... 30%, no more, no less... and put it back into the fridge
After a prolonged storage period, it is important to condition the battery. This is why you must charge, discharge, then charge full... then discharge it to the 30% for storage. (You can give it some use for a few days)
To discharge, simply run your laptop under the battery's power until it shuts down or until you get a low battery warning.
Do not leave your battery dormant for long periods of time. If a battery has not been used for a long period of time, it has to be recondition like a new battery (the battery requires two to three charge/discharge cycles)
The downside to not having the battery inside the Laptop, is if for some chance the power gets cut off due to an electrical storm or what have you, the laptop will shut down and you would loose what you were working on.
