Hi everyone,
I need a favor from you all.
I need you to experiment with the Photo on the Portal by trying all means to copy it and report back into this thread.
You must try to copy it using your browser(s) and pasting it in what ever program you can think of using (Paint, Word, Outlook, Dreamweaver, etc)
You must state what browser you tried and what program you copy it to and how - If successful
I have coded a "protection" to the image - You should get a blank image which is the protection, but if you do indeed get the actual photo (Cane Fields) please report your process.
Thank you
Ps. I will explain the coding later _________________

I was unsuccessful...your copyrighting worked!! I tried copying it into an AOL email, Paint, Dreamweaver, Publisher and Word...they all pasted the blank image.
I hope that these are the results that you were hoping for! _________________

Your copyright worked well. I could not save the photo of copy it and paste it in an email using Microsoft Office and Word. It just saved blank The same think when I tried to copy it. It showed no image at all. I used IE6 as my browser.
I'll try again the next time I open Photoshop but I do not think it will work...You must teach us this one when you have time...Samantha you are learning so much... _________________

wwe,
She has fixed it so that you should not be able to copy it, but she wants us to see if we can. She said to try to copy it and past it in any program we think we can.

Thank you all!!
Btw… did anyone of you try it with Firefox or any other browser other than IE and AOL?
Fay… I knew you would get it!!
Ok here is how its done
You know how we go around right-clicking and select either “save picture as” or “copy” from the popup menu? Well instead of saving the viewed image, another one would be saved instead.
Wwe… it’s all in tables
You place the image to be displayed into a table as the background for the table and then place a transparent image in front of it as the table content. So that anyone saving the image will be saving the transparent image and not the background one.
One can only hope that whoever is ripping, won’t notice that they have saved the wrong image until much later.
… or they can come back and do it like Fay
I cannot take the credit for this one, it’s a nifty trick I picked up from the web - don’t ya’ll think!
Here is the code:

There is no way to protect anything in web pages from being stolen, but at least you can make them work a little. I have researched a lot on this topic and the only true solution is making your images so small that people would not care to steal it. _________________

That's why WP couldn't do it then cause it cant see background images. It grabs whats in the td text. _________________ if there was room for another God, and Almighty was ok with it, He would pick me because I'm just that darn good |

Sam,
Yes, a very nifty trick. After II got the image by getting the url from the page source I had to go back and try to see how you did it. It will not stop everyone - but is at least one measure of security and will stop a lot of people I imagine.
I could see what you did but would NEVER have thought of it. Also, as you probably know I don't do a lot with images and graphics and don't know how to get a transparent image. I figured that must have been what you did - but I still don't know how to create a transparent image.
I don't have firefox right now. I did before my last hard drive carsh. I may go download it and see what happen with it.
Thanks for teaching us something.
Fay
P.S.
I downloaded Firefox and gave it a try. I got the same results as with IE6. |

Wow Fay... many thanks!!
If you have noticed the Cane Fields image is a .jpg and the transparent image is a .gif
When creating images with transparency you save them either as .gif or .png as those file formats support transparency. Also you have to have an image editor that provides you with this.
If you would like to use this transparent image you may copy this one.
I created it with the dimensions of 650 x 650 pixels as those are the maximum sizes for the Photos for the Competition. Notice that the Cane Fields is 500 x 375 pixels but with the table code you make the necessary adjustments.
Glad you all found it entertaining _________________

Sam,
Is it just a blank image that is transparent?
I don't know much about the image editors. I just recently downloaded GIMP but don't really know how to use it -and probably will not mess with it too much.
You are leaning a lot, and then we learn too.

Yes Fay
The blank image is the transparent image. The best way to save this transparent image is right-clicking and selecting "save picture as". Do not edit it or anything as it would alter the transparency.
In Gimp I am sure you will be able to create one. Its very simple really. Create a new file, it should have a region for size and background color. In background color just chose transparent. Next save as a gif, make sure transparency is check in that section too (if any) and give the image a name... that is all!
I know you are not into images but I also know you love to know how things are done _________________

Sam,
Thanks for the info. I'll have to give it a try sometime. I played arond a little on my computer with some html doing what you did using my own image for the background and your .gif for the image. So I'll have to try creating blank image myseself sometimes and try using it. Really don't know when I would ever use it - but as you said I like to know about ehse things.
Thanks again,
Fay |
