I am not considering this a major problem - yet.   But I do get a dll error.
Although it completes anyway.  What I want to know is how to searach for this particular dll in my system.   Then, when I find out about it I can decide if it is partial or completely gone. I am guessing partially gone.

I have seen two sites that do a free dll scan.
http://www.liutilities.com/products/campaigns/dll/rb/?id=com
http://www.bang.ro/dll/dll_errors.htm

I checked with McAffe site advisor.

Thanks

Jane, it helps if you specify the dll that you are having a problem with, and the exact error message you are getting as well as the operating system you are running. Some of you are running Vista now, but I can't always remember who.

Did you try restoring your computer to a time before the error started? If that doesn't work, or you can't remember when the problem first started, go read this and you should find a solution to your problem there:

http://www.freepowerboards.com/geeksmore/viewtopic.php?p=9150#9150

About your links - you are taking a risk trusting any site that openly advertises free scans to find or fix a particular problem. Your first link has a lot of bad user reviews at SiteAdvisor in contrast to SiteAdvisor's rating, if you take the time to scroll down the page and read them. The second link I can't find out much about, but I wouldn't trust it to scan your computer and make recommendations. Sites like this often list bogus problems to sell you their software that sometimes introduces adware, spyware or other malware that you didn't have before. Don't know that this site is one that would do that, but I wouldn't take the chance with no more than I know about it.

This is the sxs.dll error.  It pretty much errors all the time as you can see by the screenshot. It is Fusion 2.5  The other screenshot is the search I did in my system.

<img src="http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u260/Pacoavenge/For%20Geeks/th_StartofError.jpg"></a>

<img src="http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u260/Pacoavenge/For%20Geeks/th_sxsdllsearch.jpg"></a>
</center>

I run Windows XP SP3.  I have had the SP3 for about a month now.  This error problem has been going on for over 6 months. I don't want to restore because I am not sure of a time frame for the error.  Plus, I have fixed other problesm with restore that I don't want to disappear.

I will not try the links.  I was just searching for answer.  What I got was apparently this dll  (Fusion) has had a problem since Windows 98. It suggested an uninstall of a program that may have been connected to this dll.

I read you link before doing this thread.  I wasn't sure if it pertained to this.  One thing I want to ask, is do I ned to install all of those programs. I do not have any of them  If I can just install maybe one (at your suggestion of which one).

I am wondering if this dll is connected to most of the programs, might it be the problem I have been having with Outlook Express.  But, I won't go into that problem. Another on going problem.

Thanks for you help.  I will not do anything until I hear from you about the spyware programs.  Thanks Again,

What you show above is different that what I was thinking. I was thinking that you got a popup window telling you that some process was failing because of that dll.

Well, the fact that it resolves itself or seems to is encouraging and doesn't appear to be causing anything to fail to operate.

Not sure what you mean by "do I need to install all of those programs." All of which programs? Actually, I think this is not a concern right now.

This dll, sxs.dll, is usually found in both C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\System32\dllcache. Your search window doesn't show the latter. Copy and paste sxs.dll from the System32 folder into the dllcache folder on your computer so that it is in both places, and see if that solves your problem. Be sure to register the dll as follows:

Step 1: Go to Start>> Run.

Step 2: Type in: cmd (or command) [Enter]
You will now be in the DOS command prompt screen:

o To install/register the file type in: regsvr32 sxs.dll   [Enter]

A message should be displayed confirming that you've successfully registered the file.

  Step 3: Reboot

Let me know if this resolves your problem.

First:  I was speaking of the A Square;Ad Aware;Spybot and AVG. I do not have any of these installed in my computer.

Now my question:
How do I get into Sys32 to copy to the other Cache folder? I am dumb when it comes to this.  Of course, as soon as you tell me I will see that I have already been there at one time or another.

While I wait for your answer I will be pursuing it by probably freezing my computer.
Thanks[/quote]

Oh, well yea, you should already have installed these programs if you have paid any attention to the Tutorials for keeping your computer safe and clean (Sticky #3 and #6). Each finds things that another doesn't. It is your toolkit for keeping your computer secure. Each should be run periodically according to Sticky # 4 in the tutorials forum.

Now my question:
How do I get into Sys32 to copy to the other Cache folder? I am dumb when it comes to this.  Of course, as soon as you tell me I will see that I have already been there at one time or another.

1. Click on My Computer and follow this path:

C:\Windows\System32

2. Find sxs.dll and right-click on it. Select Copy from the popup menu that appears.

3. Now, follow this path:

C:\Windows\System32\dllcache

4. Right-click on an empty space in the large window on the right and select paste from the popup menu that appears.

5. Close the window and go register the dll as instructed in my previous post. Then Reboot and check to see if your problem has stopped.

Because I am getting "There are no results for Display" when I search for Sys32 ddlCache folder, I think that I will install some of the programs and run them before I go any further.  The only folder I can think of would be Sys32 I386 and I can't get into that folder because is wants to know who created it.

Jane, you need to unhide hidden files and folders. Do the following:

Right Click Start.
      Select Explore
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
      Select the View Tab.
Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck the Hide extensions for known file types option.
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
      Click Apply.
      Click OK.

Now, you should be able to find the System32 folder, the dllcache folder and sxs.dll. The dllcache folder is a hidden system folder. I always keep my files and folders unhidden, so I forget that others may not - sorry! Also, make sure you spell the folder names right, it's System32, not Sys32.

Also, the way to get to these folders other than search is to click on My Computer > Local Disk (C: ) > Windows > System32 find sxs.dll in the folder and copy it, and then
My Computer > Local Disk (C: ) > Windows > System32 > dllcache and paste sxs.dll into the dllcache folder.

Sorry about the Sys32, I get going typing and tend to cut words short. I use the complete title when searching etc.

I was able to get into the folders, thank you.  Now, my next problem.  I did exactly as stated.   I copied, pasted and went to register.  When I clicked enter I got this message:

sxs.dll was loaded but the DllRegisterService entry poiont was not found. This file cannot be registered.

Also, I downloaded and installed SpyBot.  I will do one a day so I don't bog my brain with new stiff.  Still learning Spybot.

I have found some other items I question on my searchings of this dll.  After looking and researching and checking dates, I am beginning to think a lot of this came on after my drive crash last year.  A lot of the dates are around April and May 2007.  The drive crashed and was replaced in March of 2007. I need to check events more often than once every 6 or 8 months I guess.

Not all dlls are registerable, and sxs.dll may be one of them - I don't know. Upon closer examination of your images in your first post, I don't think sxs.dll has anything to do with those errors being generated in the event viewer. I believe those errors are being generated because the run-time libraries are not installed on your system. The applications that use side-by-side libraries cannot run without the run-time libraries. You can read about similar problems experienced by others as follows:

Read solution by Pankaj S here:

http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?eventid=59&eventno=4228&source=SideBySide&phase=1

Read solution by Dan Krasinski here:

http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1662927&SiteID=1

To Install the The Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86) with the runtime components of Visual C++ Libraries, go here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=200B2FD9-AE1A-4A14-984D-389C36F85647&displa ylang=en

Be sure you set a new restore point before trying the above. Let me know if you try it and if it works or not. BTW, what does the Event Properties Window error message look like for the Error Event ID 32?

Repa I am sorry I haven't gotten back to you.  I will have the Error 32 screen shot tomorrow.    For some reason though, I think the 59 error is the one that directed me to the sxs.dll.  I will recheck that before I add the screenshot.  Thanks again.

Jane, this just confirms what I told you in my earlier post. Installing the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86) with the runtime components of Visual C++ Libraries, should correct this problem. This package is required to run applications developed with Visual C++ on a computer that does not have Visual C++ 2005 installed. Go here to install:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=200B2FD9-AE1A-4A14-984D-389C36F85647&displa ylang=en

Be sure you set a new restore point before trying the above. Let me know if it fixes your problem.

Repa,

Okay, I installed the Microsoft Visual C++2005 Redistributable Package.  I did a restart after installing.  I waited 24 hours before getting back here because I wanted to be sure.  Thank you very much, it worked.   But, this has got me to check the events viewer more often.

I appreciated the work involved research.
