JANE and ALL!!!!!
I hope this will be accepted as offering help and not as criticism... Here's HOPING.... FIRST I like the CAT shot... as A snapshot or as a photo if some surreal other worldly fuzziness was the intent... But as a good clear PHOTOGRAPH with a lot of SNAP it has some problems unless the binder to the left rear of the cat is the true subject as it appears to be in focus... This shot could really look GREAT and have a lot going for it if only the camera had focused on the assumed main subject -the cat...( then edit out the extraneous background.) I take it the fuji is a self focus only camera (my apologies I am not familiar with its features...) The subject appears to be pretty close to the camera or zoom was used for a closeup... If the former and if available the close focus option {looks like a flower} may have given better results. If the latter passably the shot was rushed and the camera not allowed to focus [that half way down push of the shutter] before the final nudge to take the picture... Or possibly the wrong focus point was selected by the camera? Or the camera is unable to focus that close.
If possible NEVER just take just one picture (think of it as potato chips or Pizza one's just NOT enough take lots even from the same position your not burning FILM memory's cheap and reusable
Note the two examples look closely at the eyes and nose and tell me which one IS focused on the face properly.

For me, its the first one that is focused properly.
This is great 24K... I like this idea.... when you are in the mood... you can also check out other photos that are already posted in the Image Gallery or the Graphic Corner forums and give some inputs there too _________________

Thanks for helping out, Don. Could also be if Jane used zoom, that she was too close to the cat when she did it. Most cameras you need to be at least 6 feet or more away in order for zoom to focus properly. Likewise, if you are too close to the subject in full wide-angle but not in macro mode, you have the same problem. Usually need to be 12 inches or more away, depending on the camera manufacturer. The User Manual should tell you what those distances are. _________________ Repa

Pepperpot:
YES! The first one is sharply focused on the face... and I'll try to do that... The cat shot cought my eye and I wished the pic had been super sharp love detail...
Repa:
I Have not tried the latest camera on macro yet but my older Nikons will use Macro and telephoto and focus from an inch or so out to 3 to 6 feet depending on which camera... |

My Panasonic DMC FZ20 will focus sharply in Macro Mode at full wide angle when I am 1.92 inches or further from the subject, but I cannot use zoom in any mode and hope to get good focus if I am closer than 6.56 feet from the subject. Each camera manufacturer is different, so one must refer to the user's manual for these distances. Something to think about when taking your photos, Jane, as you have mentioned before that a lot of your photos don't always come out well, focus-wise. This might be why, especially if you are using zoom at close distances. _________________ Repa
