Repa, and anybody,
I don't know why my Adobe acrobat reader don't work anymore, but, I was gonna update it, or reinstall, until I discovered how much space and resources it required.
In the process I ran across Fox it Reader and wondered if you have used it, is it any good, etc.? I'm also not sure if it's free or not? I read one thing that someone wrote that in order to convert PDF, you had to buy some software to make it work.
Anyway, I just wanted some more information before I downloaded it. What can you tell me? _________________ Thanks!!

Siteadvisor shows the foxit reader as a yellow download from www.foxitsoftware.com. I suggest you don't download it. I suggest you uninstall Adobe PDF Reader from Add/Remove programs (65MB) and reinstall it. _________________ Repa

Thanks for the advice.
Here's the Adobe in my Add/Remove Programs.
1) Adobe Atmosphere Player for Acrobat and Adobe Reader Size 41.55MB
2) Adobe Flash Player 9 ActiveX
3) Adobe Flash Player Plugin
4) Adobe Reader 8 Size 155.00MB
A) Should I remove all the above?
B) Where is a safe site to install Adobe PDF Reader (65MB)? _________________ Thanks!!

No, just item 4) Adobe Reade 8. Go to www.adobe.com for the download. Don't forget to uncheck the box beside the Free Google Toolbar or you'll get that too. _________________ Repa

I clicked your Adobe link. There's quite a number of things on that page.
On the right side of the page, where it says "Get Adobe Reader", that's the one I need, Correct? _________________ Thanks!!

Sorry I caught this so late. I have used Foxit Reader exclusively for over a year now and got rid of Acrobat Reader with no ill effects. Foxit is faster and much easier on my system than Acrobat. I would not want to trade back, ever! _________________ Rike

Hey Rike,
I still haven't done either yet, so, you're timely still.
As you've seen Repa said Siteadvisor shows the foxit reader as a yellow download from www.foxitsoftware.com.
I don't want to catch anything. Where did you download from? _________________ Thanks!!

Repa,
If I find out if I can get a green siteadvisor and install foxit, won't I need to remove all the Adobe stuff in my Add/Remove programs? _________________ Thanks!!

Well, the download is not green, according to site advisor. It may contain some tracking software that calls home and Rike isn't aware of it. Doesn't mean that Rike isn't right, could be perfectly harmless, just not something I would download. You will have to decide for yourself which pdf reader you want, Foxit or Adobe. Either way, you need to uninstall the current Adobe Reader 8 since it is apparently corrupt if you can't get it to read pdf files. _________________ Repa

I do not remember where I downloaded it from, but I don't believe that Foxit would have any worse tracking software than Adobe Reader. I have a lot of confidence in my Firewall (Comodo) to let me know who wants to call home and so far I haven't had any Foxit alerts. I do get Adobe alerts - Adobe Elements - but don't remember if I had any about Adobe Reader. _________________ Rike

"It may contain some tracking software that calls home"
What does this mean?

WC -
almost anything you download nowadays contains some kind of tracking software. Some are "harmless" cookies, others are programs that periodically check "back home" for updates, and still others are worse - they "report" on every move you make so they can gear their advertisements to their customers liking. That is why your firewall should not only stop incoming threats, but also let you know "who" is "calling home".
That is also why you should carefully read all the EULAs and included user instructions to know what baggage comes with the program before you click "accept". _________________ Rike
