I installed Office 07 but now keep getting the following message when I open Outlook

"Corel Address
Cannot Find IDAPI Files.  Check Registry."

What does this mean?

Glad to have you with us. I only hope that we can measure up to your requirements, as you seem to be pretty techie yourself. I think that we will all benefit from your membership here.

I am assuming that you have installed this program on a networked system. It would appear that Outlook is pointed to a database engine that isn't listed in your local registry. I have had an evaluation copy of 2007 sitting on the shelf for months and haven't gotten around to trying it seriously yet. I will attempt to re-create your issue with my own database and Outlook, but it would be helpful to know what the network platform is and if your copy of Office is a single user or multiple license version. The installer for multiple users may assume a server to be present and cause this issue if it is installed on a stand alone, or isolated file system.

Hi Ron,

Welcome to our message board. We're glad to have you with us and hope you are enjoying yourself.

While Keith (Novice57) is attempting to recreate your issue, here's something for you to look at and try in the iterim. I don't have your Offfice configuration - in fact, I am using Office 2000 Small Business, which does not use the IDAPI. But, I have done a quick seach on your problem and found the following which may or may not be useful:

IDAPI is an acronym for "Independent Database Application Programming Interface." IDAPI is the database engine used by Paradox 5.0 for Windows and dBASE for Windows. Older versions of Paradox for Windows and Quattro Pro for Windows use a similar database engine called ODAPI.

The IDAPI database engine acts as an intermediary between the database application (Paradox for Windows or dBASE for Windows) and the underlying tables. Whenever the database application requests information from a table or needs to perform an operation on a table, it passes its request to IDAPI, which ensures that the information is obtained properly and the tables reflect the change.

Addressing the Problem of Missing IDAPI files:

Paradox usually places the IDAPI files in a directory named IDAPI, but you could have specified a different directory when Paradox was installed. If you cannot find the IDAPI files, you can use File Manager (Start > Search > For files or folders...) to search for the file IDAPI01.DLL. If File Manager cannot find the files, the files may have been deleted, renamed, or never installed. Run the installation program and choose the "Custom Installation" option to reinstall the IDAPI files.

If you do find the IDAPI files, note the drive and directory where these files reside and compare it with the DLLPATH setting in WIN.INI (Start > Search > For files or folders...). To check the DLLPATH setting, open the WIN.INI file using NOTEPAD or some comparable text editor and search for the section called "[IDAPI]". There should be a line in the "[IDAPI]" section that starts with "DLLPATH=" that indicates where Paradox can find the IDAPI files. If the path that follows is invalid or incorrect, change it so that it points to the directory where you found the IDAPI files.

Let us know if this is of any help to you. Unfortunately, I have no way of checking it with my systems, since, as I mentioned previously, my version of office does not use IDAPI.

Thanks for your help.  Your assumption that the program is installed on a networked system is accurate I think, in that I do have a small home wireless network.  The copy used to install the program is under the "if used at office, allowed one istallation at home" license agreement.

I'm probably getting into trouble here, but I don't have a server at home do I?  Or is it that the stationary pc acts as the server?

Repa, I read your explaination three times (slowly) and when I get home later today will follow your suggested steps.

Thanks you both.

I installed the copy of Office 07 that I have and tried to point it to my Linux database (base), but didn't have much success. I don't know if my evaluation copy is that much different or if the difference in database apps keeps this issue from being re-created. My database is on a file / backup server on my network and I usually don't access it with Windows so I am a bit rusty on the conventions, but then it isn't rocket science either.

I have some advisors that I can utilize and one of them in particular will know the answer, but he is out of touch until after next week. (Assignment in Caribbean, the lucky dog) I will find out eventually tho.
