Repa,

Today I tried most of the afternoon to make a gif image of my newest kitty.

I maybe wrong with that statement. You put up a slide show with some images that took a few seconds before the next one loaded. I tried saving each as a gif and resized the three pictures. I opened them again but can't figure when I make a new layer how to put the other two which are in the palate at the bottom?

I read the help directions over and over from Adobe but it didn't seem to make sense. I tried making a photo book also but couldn't save it as a gif. I could save as PSE or other's but not to do it like your photos. I believe it was the beach pictures you took with a few second delays between each picture. If I could figure how to get the pictures in the new layers I might be able to do it...

Anyway thank you for all your help so far. I've been busy with my camera for the last week and working with my photos...This was just another of my mysteries I couldn't solve by myself as well as reading and asking for help...How to make an animated gif in the search, even... Wink
Any suggestions...

Have a nice day and evening everyone,

Sheila,

Here's how to do that:

1. Open all the photos you want in the gif. Save them using Save for Web as if you were saving them to upload to the photography forum in a folder of your choice. Be sure to size them all the same size (dimensions).  Close out all the files you have open in photoshop elements and load all the files you just saved back into photoshop elements.
2. Decide which photo you want to show first. That becomes your background layer.
3. Decide which photo you want to show next. Use the Rectangular Marquee tool to select the entire photo and then select Edit > Copy from the menu bar at the top of the page.
4. Now bring up the background layer photo and select Edit > Paste. This pastes your second photo into the first photo and it becomes Layer 1 of that photo.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 above for each photo you want in your "slide presentation." As you paste the new photo into the background photo, it becomes the next layer (Layer 2, Layer 3, etc.). I wouldn't use more than 4 or 5 photos, or it can get too big to process.
6. When you have all the layers you want in the background layer photo, then you do a "Save for Web" and select gif as the file type, check "Animate", check "Loop" under Animation at the bottom right of the page, and set the "Frame Delay" to whatever time interval you want between "slides." You may have to lower "Color" to keep the file from being too big. You can also preview the gif to see that it is doing what you want. If everything looks good, then save it to wherever you are going to save it.

Note: this gif file will be bigger than the single jpg file you save for the forum. Typical size is 150KB or greater depending on the number of layers you have, so please use "Add image to post" to post the image.

Repa,

Thank you for solving this mystery.  Wink ...I could not figure out how to do it to save my life yesterday. I did what you said and read the help menu as well as searched.

I still think you should get work writing these for Adobe as well as paid.
Smile...

I'll give it a try real soon and saved this...

Thanks again,

Sheila, I made an error in instruction #4 above. I said "File > Paste" and that should be "Edit > Paste." I did correct the instruction.

In instruction # 1, I should clarify that when you size and save each file you want in your "gif" slideshow, you want to set the dimensions, file size and file type the same as for the forum post, i.e., height=500 pixels, file size = 50 -60KB, and file type = jpg. Then build your layers on your background (1st) photo and save that as the gif file that you animate when you "Save for Web."

One other thing I noticed in looking at your latest posts is that you are getting the file size right, but you still seem dismayed that you cannot get it exactly on 50KB. Don't worry about that - that's why I specified a range of 50 - 60KB as it is almost impossible to get it exact. When you change the slider on the "Quality" control, you can have a Quality of 50 and a file size of 42KB. When you change the Quality to 51, the file size can sometimes jump significantly, say to 61KB. So what you want to do is get the file size as close to the range I specified as you can. In the example I just gave you, I would set the Quality at 51 which would give me a file size of 61KB - close enough. If it jumps like that, take the value that gives you a file size greater than 50KB so your image quality is not too degraded. You tend to lose image quality at lower file sizes, like the sharpness and color in your tulip that you posted with a small file size around 28KB. In fact, I tend to try to hit closer to the 60KB to keep the image quality higher, but still easy for dial-up users to load without waiting an eternity to see the photo.

Hope these additional instructions help. Sorry about the mistake - hope I didn't confuse you.

Repa,

Thank you for fixing that. I just saved and corrected number 4 so when I open it soon I won't get confused.

I appreciate it very much...

Thank you so much Sheila. Those tuts will come in handy. I didn't see Vertigo, but the movie that was one of my favorites was "Bell, Book and Candle." Kim was "bewitching!"  Wink  Say hi, btw.

No, I didn't. But 1958 was a busy year: I graduated from high school the end of May, met Granny in June and fell head over heels in love with her, had no money and so joined the Air Force in August, went to basic training and then electronics tech school in October, came home right after Christmas on leave and married Granny on 4 Jan 1959. Just couldn't fit it in!  Wink

No, actually I'm not much of a movie-goer since my teens and early 20s. Except for taking my grandchildren to a couple of movies in 2007, I hadn't set foot in a movie theatre since 1984 when Granny and I went to see "Out of Africa."

The last time I saw a movie was Snakes on a Plane...LOL...Yes my girlfriend's daughter wanted to see it but her mother and father didn't ...So I went with the Dad..He watched another movie and I stayed with the daughter...My girlfriend stayed home...She didn't think he daughter was old enough to be in the movie theater by her self...What a good friend I am...

Like you Repa...I can't remember the last time I saw a movie in a Theater possible in the early 80ties ... Wink Unless Kim brings something home from Hollywood on DVD...

It's the new wave it seems...

Sam...I like those how we meet movies but lately I'm into Good Horror Movies...or mystery for sure...This is a have to see movie...Will Smith and his Son..."The Pursuit of Happiness"
I would even buy it on DVD...I don't often suggest a good movie...but this is good...

I'm waiting for the cut of I am Legend...My friend Jeanie is supposed to bring it by one of these days...Yep! One of these days...Lol..but I'll let you know what I think of it...How bad can it be with Will Smith..Some good Horror ones showing on the Previews...One is about a computer virus but it gets people...and the phone one...lol...I hear about these from her or see them previewed on TV...her sons have a way to get them early... Shocked lol

Take care and have a nice day everyone,

I really hate to say this, but the last movie I kind of saw was when Return of JEdi came out.  Last time in a movie theater.  Went with my sister, neice and my daughter.  Spend most of the movie taking the girls to the bathroom. Lord, I can't remember, early 80's maybe. Got to see it later on TV, not being a fan of all that, I felt I didn't miss much.   Now that last movie I saw (DVD) and really liked was Mystic River with Sean Penn and Kevin Bacon.  Very strange and sorrowful movie, but good.
