· Quote

I had a friend go to a site to calculate and display some information.
http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/bmi/
When she does,  some of the information is missing - just shows white space.  I had her send me a screen shot to I could compare to my results.

I figure it must be some security setting her husband has set.  She will not be able to give me much if any information.  I am just curious what the problem is and tried to reproduce her results.

I looked at the source for the page and saw the missing data was being displayed with javasciprt using  document.write.  So I thought maybe her husband  turned off  javascript.  I went to my settings and set active scripting to disabled.  When I did that,  it would not even take me to the results page.

You have to enter some information and click the calculate button and then it displays the results page.   She is getting the results page.  But if I disable scipting it doesn't do anything when I click the calculate button.  That page is using javascript also.

Just wonder if any one has any ideas what setting may be blocking the information from her screen.  This is really not imporant I am just curious. It appears to be the document.write statement that is not working (maybe other stuff to - but that is the one I can see is not working).

Again this is not important.  I will not be able to get her to play with the sdttings - I was just trying to reproduce out of curiouity.  So much to learn Smile

Thanks,
Fay

Can't come up with anything, Fay, but I don't have a lot of time to spend on it right now. I'll look some more as I have time.

Repa,

I know you are busy.  As I stated, it is not really important,  I was just curious.  No need for you to send time on it.  I just thought maybe you or someone would have encoutnerd this before and know what it might be.

Thanks,
Fay

Hmmm...., I've noticed there are things that don't display in Firefox that I have no problem with in IE. Consequently, I rarely use Firefox as I haven't been inclined to search out why they don't display when I have a browser that does. I don't think Java works right in Firefox for one thing. Maybe one day I'll look into it when I get more pressing projects out of the way.

Reap,

I seldom use firefox either.
Here is what I think I have found out so far.

I think the problem in this case is in the javascipt (not acutal java) and has to do with querystrigs.

Information is getting passed using querystrings  and it appears that the parameteres are not getting read correctly by FireFox.  I have no idea why.  I haven't done that much with JavaScript - did take an HP class a while back where we passed information with query stirng but it has been a while and I used IE.

Not sure I can do much more right now without putting in more effort that I can right at this  time.  I will proalby just tell my friend that some things don't work with firefox.

Thanks,
Fay

This is true and vise versa.

If your friend has Firefox... obviously she has another browser... tell her to view the page/site with another browser to see if the problem still persist

Sam,

I don't want to try to get her to use a different browser.  Her husband is the one that setup firefox.  But I have tried it with both browsers.  It works in IE and not in FireFox.  I saved the pagesource and played around a little and tracked it down to the use of the querystring to pass information.

I sent her an e-mail a little bit ago and told her pretty much what you said.  FIrefox woul not work on some things IE would and also the other way around.

Thanks,
Fay

Ok Fay... but I am sure they have another browser in their computer... that is why I suggested that.

But I am glad you were able to check it out in both browsers... I have not downloaded FF as yet

Sam,

They probalby do.  But it is kind of hard to get my friend to do new things on the computer.  And since I have verified for myself it is a difference in firefox and IE there is no need to have her do it at this time.  Maybe some other time when she is over here I'll show her about  using  IE instead of Firefox.

Thanks,
Fay
