Samantha, instead of making my own transparent blank image, couldn't I just save yours and use it on my own photo?

Yes.... Fay said that is how she got it... by viewing the source code

Now...

The challenge I think now, is to block people from viewing the source code

... There must me a way... some where... I know there should be a way, cause I think I have seen it Laughing

Sam,

I am like you I think three is a way also.  I am not sure how all it can be done and not sure what you can do here on the forum.

I am not sure but I think if you can put stuff into frames then you can's see the codes for the frame. Not sure about that and even if that would work in some case, not sure you could do it on the portal page.

I imagine ther are other ways,  will be interesting to see wht you come up with.  You'll have to let us kow.

Lol... ok Fay... we can always experiment

You know I am up for it Wink

But not tonight... lol... it's Saturday night!

We can experiment pretty much on the portal. I just have to input the codes to be used in the general configuration - this is why we can use Html in the threads - because of the html codes I am allowing it to used.

So if you can think of some coding I will be more than open to experimet with you all  Cool

Fay,

I saw your email and tend to agree with you.

I was thinking that to use frames you need the ability to have extra pages (as you said). On this forum we do not.

So, I went to investigate.

There is a way to Hide the Source... however... not disable a viewer from pressing "view source". Some say that is done by Javascript.

Everything that I found pointed me to purchase programs that would jumble the HTML making it into garble and unreadable to viewers. I found none that would teach me how-to-do-it-myself.

This is call Encrypting - again I found none that would teach me how to - I then search for free Encrypting programs - I found one
http://www.iwebtool.com/html_encrypter

This link in from a site that I know and that I am a member of - I tried it but I am so scared to use it on our portal is fear I would mess with things - lol

There are mix reviews on encrypting the code on web pages. Some say that it still does not protect your images. But I think, that these two gimmicks would work out together in the end.

What I like about the table code... is that with this code you are not interfering with the viewer's browser and it works (so far) on all browsers

I found the same things you did, Sam, and would be reluctant to use any of the free stuff until, and if, I could thoroughly check it out to be safe to use. I also would not want to use it on the forum without checking it out with Chris. Maybe if we ask in the community forum, they might consider making it a feature. They might be aware of something that can be easily used for the message boards.

Update: just went to your link and saw what it did. That would be ok for hiding portions of code, like the code that hides the images, for example.

Sam,

Cool.  I think the main thing about using what you postd the link for is wheter or not we want to use JavaScript.  I gave it a test and it seemed to work.

I think you would olnly have to enrypt the portions of code that you wanted to hide.

I put an img tag in some test hml
img src='mypics\mindy.jpg'

then I entered that code into the tool and got the code from it and pasted into my code.

I got the same image displayed twice - which is what should have happened.

Looks pretty good to me -  again - depending on whether or not we want ot use javascirpt  on the board.

I don't know exaclty how the encrypting works.  I looked up  unescape -  and it is a javacript function that says it decrypts things encrypted by escape.  But I teste the javacript excape - and it doesn't do muh encyrpting.  I didn't read a lot about it -  I dont know how the unescape can decrypt things ecrptyed by the tool.
(geuss we could try looking at the source code for the tool)

I went back to take another look at this and they appear to be using a very simple encyrption scheme  at least on the examples I tried.

I haven't tried looking at their source yet but after  I tried a few examples and saw the results I kind of had an idea what they might be doing so I decided to check it out.

They are converting each charater to its ascii equivelent and putting a  & in front.  I think the  &  is a special charcter - not sure exaclty what it does - prehaps tell it that the next characer is a hex value - I don't know.

Also  in some case they add %0D and/or %0A in the front.    OD is a carriage return and 0A is a line feed.

If you want to verify this, use can do a search for ascii and find some table showing the value of the characters.

dunno Well.... I have no idea what you just said - LOL

as for a table of ascii I know one from w3schools

http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_ascii.asp

Hey... wait....

I think I found something to help us figure out this encoding

http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_urlencode.asp

Sam,

Yes, they are using the encode values from the chart on the last link.  They wrote code to read each character entered and covert it,  I haven't looked at their code enough yet to figure out how they did it.  But that is what they are doing is converting each charcter to the characters in that chart.

In my prior post I said they are covertinf each character to the ascii equivelent - I should have said the hex representiton of the ascii equivelent - that is what is in the last chart.    I think the first chart is the ascii value - the last chart is the hex equivelent of the ascii value - and that is what it uses.

Fay.
I was able to talk with FPB about this and was told to go ahead and give it a shot - we will be the first to try it.

Chris said that he doubt that it will work, but not to worry about it - he said that it will not interfere with the board, the most it could do is that the code would not work in a portal block.

However, I got us a V2 testboard to experiment with Wink
