I have no choice but to do another system recovery. I did one several years ago. is it AVG that I need to back up on cd so I can install it first thing or is it Zone alarm? I use avg and Zone Alarm. Can both be backed up on cd to install before going online? Can you please explain how I do this before my pc poops out on me please?
Thank you for helping me _________________

Linda, do you still have the installation applications for AVG and ZoneAlarm that you downloaded into a folder that you may have named "My Downloads" or something like that? If you do, then that is what you backup, and then use them to reinstall the programs. If you don't have them, go download them here:
AVG : http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5
ZoneAlarm: http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp
and backup these download files so you can install them without having to go on the internet before they are installed. Be sure you update AVG right away before you do anything else on the Internet. Check ZoneAlarm for any updates. Then, do your Windows Updates, and then go download the other programs that you asked about in another post. After you get all that done, then you can start surfing again, but do your surfing in a Restricted User account. _________________ Repa

Repa,
They probably are in my folder but I will just go to the links you provided to make sure I have them correctly. I now that when AVG had the updated version I ended up with 2 icons on my desktop. I use Firefox and I have never been able to figure out how to download something into the folder I want it in. It downloads everything to my desktop and I have to move it. Thank you giving me the links as most of my pc info is in my IE favorites which doesn't work. Thank you Repa. _________________

Linda
If you haven't started the installation yet, look over this web page. It has simple instructions for using a "recovery disk" to repair and re-install XP.

Print the instructions and follow them step by step. _________________ "Right now I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before." |

Thanks Keith
I printed out the instructions that HP sent me the link for when I did this last time. I still have them. I need to read and see if someone could help me out on getting instructions for reformatting my hard drive since I can't contact HP myself. I am off to check that post right now.
Thank you for the link. I will print it as well. _________________
