Just curious, your FPS, any idea what engine your using, progamming it from scratch, getting a free engine that you mostly program yourself?

We're planning to use FPS Creator. It's about $50 USD but then there's the PRO version of it for $75. So right now we are using the free version of FPS Creator to try it out (you cannot build a full game with the free version or multiplayer maps but you can build levels). So we tried it out and it seems pretty good, but has some downs. But the PRO version of it seems to make those "downs" into "ups" if you know what I mean. Wink

Bugs and spiders will be in the game. Very Happy

@tow
I personally think it's great and easy to use kinda thing and it has it's own code as well. Neat though how your learning C++ though it helps when applying for a video game dev when you are of age. Razz But FPSC is more so for Indie game developers (for those who dont know what indie is it means casual). However I just found this really great software that you may also want to look up called "gamebryo" and it looks GREAT. Very Happy But the thing is you'll have to contact the people who own it to purchase it. Elder Scroll IV: Oblivion used this engine for their game and so did Bully Scholarship edition. Just another software I threw out there for you to look at.  Smile

Thank Ye, I've got a book which is basically progamming a small game that would would find on systems that were mainly 2d based from start to finish, with engine making, controller support, graphics, ect ect

Oh and please unleash your intellect on why a FPSC is horrible for game making Razz

What you don't like spiders/bugs? Wink They're neat creatures lol. Razz Well first off did you finish the intro to the Hogwarts game? Smile And you're free to make scripts for the game, however we're still pending on the genre of the game. We came across the idea of an FPS/RPG game like Oblivion but you can toggle from third person perspective to first person. I can tell you though that Halflings will defaintly be in the game but that is pretty much the only definate thing we came across.

Hollowminds does have a point in some things about FPSC: The AI can be really crappy and rough and be almost too easy at points and some of the animations appear rough. Those are just the default ones though. Also you have to have some knowledge with programming with FPSC in order to make a pretty decent game. Also you cannot scale the player model and the other models (my least favorite part about FPSC). And the player doesn't have a model, it's an invisible person with no hands or legs. The gun just reloads by itself showing no sign of hands. The "player" is about 7ft tall too lol. But I would say it's decent. That's why I'm looking for other engines that are useful. Such as gamebryo.

@Hollow
Well we've come across a decision yesterday and we're not going to use FPS Creator. It's just flat out awful and does not meet our requirements. So instead we are researching up on other engines and trying demos or trials. Gamebryo really got our attention though. Smile Quake 3 is a neat engine but seems just too complicated for our use.

@tow
yeah lol, you have to make hands attached to the gun in order to have hands. And it's written in their own code.

@patzo
Alright cool. Smile

I only have some ideas for that RPG/FPS game but they are merely like I was brainstorming on paper type ideas. And no, I haven't found a good engine yet.
