Local Fifth Grade Students Participate In Fire Prevention Poster Contest
JACKSON - Fifth grade students from St. Aloysius School in Jackson recently participated in the Second Annual Fire Prevention Poster Contest which is sponsored jointly by the NJ Department of Community Affairs Division of Fire Safety and the NJ State Fire Prevention & Protection Association. The topic of the contest was "Prevent Cooking Fires: Watch What You Heat." The students were asked to come up with original ideas that depict fire safety in the home. The children came up with some very creative and artistic posters and three of the students were awarded ribbons for first, second and third place. They were judged on the local level by the Jackson Fire Department and the winning poster moved on to the county level and is being considered for the state level. St. Aloysius winners were: first place-Kevin Yoon, second place-Alyssa Laguerta, third place-Kelsey Sobieski. The children came up with their ideas totally on their own, without the help of adults. Winners on the county level will be notified by April 15 and the state level by May 15. Mrs. Diane Componile, fifth grade teacher, was the St. Aloysius school coordinator for this project. |
