Two women died in separate traffic accidents on Ocean County roads nine hours apart.

Police identified the victims as Fatima Butt, 23, killed in a crash at New Hampshire Avenue and Oak Street in Lakewood Monday morning; and Patricia Lackemacher, 62, of Park Avenue, Spring Lake Heights, who died in an accident Sunday night on Interstate 195 in Jackson.

The Lakewood crash was reported at 7:47 a.m. Monday, said Patrolman Robert Redington.

Butt had been traveling south on New Hampshire Avenue and had just passed Oak Street when she lost control of her 1999 Acura and crossed into the northbound lanes, colliding with a 2007 Toyota Corolla driven by Renee Douglas, 28, also of Lakewood, Redington said.

Douglas was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune with neck and chest injuries, Redington said.

Police are trying to determine why Butt lost control.

Police said one witness has come forward, and additional ones are being sought. Anyone who saw the crash is asked to call Lakewood police at (732) 363-0200, ext. 5380.

The Lakewood Emergency Medical Services responded to the crash.

In the Jackson accident, reported about 10:50 p.m. Sunday, Lackemacher was driving a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer east when the vehicle left the road near mile marker 25.2, said State Police Sgt. Gregg Herbert.

The vehicle began to spin, struck a tree, and then overturned, he said. Lackemacher was thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, State Police said.

They said they are trying to determine why the vehicle left the road and whether Lackemacher was wearing a seat belt.

The accident is under investigation by Trooper Thomas Manzo, with assistance from the State Police fatal accident and crime scene investigation units.
