I don't like this article. And if it's true that Mr. Cheadle said this - I don't like him.
Contactmusic.com - CHEADLE HATED CASH BIOPIC BECAUSE PHOENIX DIDN'T SWEAR ENOUGH
DON CHEADLE has slated JOAQUIN PHOENIX's portrayal as country legend JOHNNY CASH in WALK THE LINE - because he didn't swear enough. The Ocean's Thirteen star, who is set to play jazz great Miles Davis in an upcoming biopic, hopes his film is a more accurate depiction of an icon. He says, "I'm really tired of biopics. I think that, unless they're done in a very interesting and unique way, it doesn't work for me. "Either the movie is so long that you're falling asleep by the end of it or the movie has one foot in trying to educate you and the other in trying to entertain you. I mean, `Entertain me and make me excited about this person's life and I'll go and do my own research and find out who this person was.' "I expect a biofilm to be taking poetic license all over the place. You know in Walk The Line, the Johnny Cash character curses once. Do we believe that? I know they wanted it to be PG-13, but right there, that's part of his character and they're not even dealing with it. He cursed. "It's a part of his life but that's not gonna get the 14 year-olds."

consider the source...Don Cheadle is mediocre at best. And not everyone in the world wants to sit through 2 hours of cursing. Joaquin was believable as Johnny Cash to the point of being nominated for an Academy Award for his portrayal. He changed his voice, learned guitar and mannerisms and surpassed the fact that Johnny was over 6' tall.
So Cheadled needs to get a clue. What these "stars" who feel the need to give their oh-so deep opinon about everything or how they could do something better, need to do is take one step back and realize for a moment who it is who watches the movies. It's the PEOPLE, the FANS. No one really cares what he thinks of how much cursing or lack thereof was in the Walk the Line.
AND (boy this obviously got me riled up lol) as a matter of fact I have read biographies of Johnny Cash as well as a memoir written by Marshall ~ I Was There When It Happened ~ . Johnny was certainly no angel, what with his drugs and everything BUT Walk the Line was always meant to be a love story. The love of Johnny for June and the redemption she was able to help him attain. It was never to be about what a jack*ss he was, I mean geez everyone already KNEW that. |

Well, I hope Mr. Cheadle is being misquoted or at the very least his statements are being taken out of context. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt knowing how that can happen.
If what was written was quoted accurately then it simply does not make a lot of sense. So Johnny Cash cursed, so does Joaquin, so do a lot of people. There is a time and place for "the f-word" and it simply wasn't necessary to convay the story. It was not as if a key element in the story was sacraficed for a PG-13 rating!
It makes as much sense as saying that characters in movies should also only speak in their own language. This is done sometimes but those movies tend to not make it outside of the arthouse theaters. When millions of dollars are spent on making a movie it is with the expectation of making more money than what was spent. Obviously, the ticket buying audience must be taken into consideration for that to happen!
Am resisting my urge to say "duh" and even more so to say "what the f*#k was Don Cheadle thinking..obviously talking out of his a*#." It just would not be very ladylike to say that! |

Yep, I just saw that. I wanted to post that on DJ, but it angers me so much...
I am truly curious to see what this actor will do with this Davis' biopic... But it's not against Joaquin, but yet, it's totally misplaced and unpleasant. Joaquin never criticises a movie or an actor or whatever. That's another thing I love about him : he is "class", correct and I hate reading such s**** about one of his movies by one of his colleagues he worked with (!).
I agree with you, girls, what's the use of saying all the time bad words in WTL ? What would it have brought to the movie ?
And if Joaquin isn't swearing in WTL, one can't say that he doesn't show all the dark aspects of Cash ! |

Yes. Joaquin don´t need swearing. He is able to show dark side of Johny Cash without help of such an obvious things. After seeing WTL I didn´t have a feeling, that J.Cash was cute good boy. I thought that it was pretty tough to be with him. And obviously June was the only one who was able to make it. _________________

Well, maybe we'll see what he said in the context of the interview, but obviously the quote is not nice at all... |

You all took the words out of my mouth .
It's just a commentary about nothing, Joaquin did a very good job being Johnny Cash he didn't need the swearing you just have to look in his eyes and to his face and that say ed it all ,the pain the anger everything .That was what made the story what it is.No words just looking at him say ed it all .Even James mangold say ed it in the directory's commentary that Joaquin is some one who can do amazing things with just his look ,and that's why they could make so many close ups as they did in that movie .
It me of to read what he say ed . _________________

hmmmm I use to really like Don Cheadle. I think excessive swearing would have turn away alot of the older generation. When I saw WTL there were many of the older generation there (some even in wheelchairs) and I think it would have really turned them off. This maybe Don's personal opinion but did he have to use it as an example in the press? _________________
