Saw RR on Wed night at BFI film festival, London. A fab evening and of course , no Joaquin in attendance!
I think Joaquin is superb in the film and makes the most of the very limited dialogue. I really think the script could have been be so much better and much weightier. It's for me, a little over sentimental at times.
HOWEVER, having said all that, Joaquin does have some high points and of course is believable as Ethan, falling apart etc.
I still think Mark Ruffallo has the better role and certainly nailed it.
Joaquin as Ethan is gorgeous and sweet and I look forward to seeing it again etc.
I wonder if too much has been edited so maybe the DVD will have the extras or even......A director's cut!
I really enjoyed the film but I don't think it's gonna set the world alight. I HOPE it does of course and all of this is just my opinion! _________________
One of the people who really shined in this movie is the young girl who played the part of Ethan's daughter. She came across so natural, sweet when the scene called for it, and I was so impressed with the scene where she cried 'in her daddy's arms'... maybe because I have a soft spot for father/daughter relationships... but in my opinion, she more than nailed that scene...you cried with her if you were following the movie closely instead of eating popcorn and being bugged by someone next to you...
The friend who took me tried to chat during the previews and I made it known (nicely) that I really came to watch the movie, not listen to anyone talk to me...Man that bugs me! Why go if you're not going to pay attention... _________________ Everyone please catch my BlogTalk Radio Show: White Rose Talks about the U.S. Department of Peace, 3 - 5pm CST Sundays, and available for download.
