Good News in 2008!
Let's Keep the Department of Peace in the Election-year Dialogue!

=====================================

You can read this online here:

=====================================

Dear Rosie,

The story of an individual asking John Edwards if he supported legislation to create a U.S. Department of Peace appeared in several online newspapers over the last week, and todaythere is a report that John McCain was asked the same question.

While their responses were that they currently do not (maybe that will change!), what's important about the stories is that two independent DOP activists, by their persistent willingness to speak out, got the topic of a Department of Peace entered into the presidential debate.

These stories--of how one individual can make a difference--make up the crux of our work. Now, as each of us follows suit in our own individual ways, we will continue to create and ride the wave of ever-increasing public awareness of an idea whose time is coming.

Bravo for all that's been done so far. I think 2008 will be great.

My best,

Marianne Williamson
President of the Board
The Peace Alliance

Why is 'Peace' a Dirty Word?
By Alex Miller, Vail Daily
December 12, 2007: How is that people--most of whom grow up with parents admonishing them daily to behave with peace and civility-embrace messages that snicker at the notion of peace on a wider scale? Most people will live their entire lives without engaging in murder or acts of war and be happy for it. Yet when someone comes along and suggests more vigorous pursuit of this thing called "peace," they are pilloried for it. Read more?
