There is an article about Joaquin on Contactmusic.
Actually I don´t know what to think about it as I saw in bonus on DVD, that there was kind of training for the movie????

PHOENIX LIED ABOUT MOVIE PREPARATION

Actor JOAQUIN PHOENIX lied about training with the fire academy to prepare for a role, because it "would sound good" to the press. The Walk The Line star told the lie to reporters while promoting 2004's Ladder 49, reports gossip column Page Six. He explains, "I just said that because I thought it would sound good to the press. "I never prepare. I think that's completely overrated. It's a very simple job. All you have to do is... stand in the right spot and say the line. So I don't really believe in preparation."

I wouldn't believe everything that Page Six says...he did prepare because they showed them preparing on the DVD so obviously its not a lie.  And he had stories about him and Balthazaar Getty in training and you can't make that kind of stuff up.  We don't know the whole story so I am thinking that the interviewer from Page Six p***ed him off.  He plays a coke head in WOTN so she probably asked about his brother.  Of course Page Six is going to edit everything to make Joaquin look bad.  If you have seen and read his other interviews he seems fine.  I would take this with a grain of salt.

I actually made a point not to post this story. Sorry Jindra. hug Actually, I saw this story in a couple of places. It originated with a telephone interview that went wrong. Supposedly he was rude to the woman and hung up on her after he said that he doesn't prepare for movies to which she asked about Ladder 49. We all know that either what was said was made up on her part or he was lying because we all know the truth. If he did say that, he must have been in a foul mood.

Sounds to me as if Joaquin was being totally sarcastic and the "journalist" either didn't get it or choose to not get it.

Reminds me of that interview at Cannes...the french reporter that asked him how much from his Johnny Cash role did he use for Bobby in WOTN and Joaquin got smirky and said that he "just completely copied that role but with not such a deep voice.  Watched WTL like 40 times to prepare for WOTN."  Most anyone would know he was being sarcastic.  This was the same thing.
