MONTREAL (CBC) - Hidden cameras and undercover police officers are among new measures introduced by the Laval Transit Commission Wednesday in an effort to curb vandalism and violence.
The transit commission north of Montreal says it has installed hidden cameras on the front doors and in the back areas of certain buses on some routes to record any unusual activity ranging from graffiti to attacks.
The extra measures will pay off in the long run, said transit spokeswoman Odile Paradis. "It can cost up to $310,000 a year just to clean and repair buses because of vandalism," she said on Wednesday.
Undercover Laval officers will also start riding some routes at the end of July during certain time periods, to deter attacks on the bus. _________________ kyranŠ
