OTTAWA (CBC) - Police have arrested 14 teenagers who attend the second-largest high school in Gatineau, Que., saying it was the second such raid on high-school students in just over a week.
At lunchtime on Thursday, police arrested 12 boys and two girls who attend Nicolas-Gatineau Secondary School. The arrests were made off school property, according to a news release by Gatineau police.
The police said 13 of the teens were facing possible charges of drug possession, while one teen faces a possible drug-trafficking charge.
Police said Thursday's arrests resulted from co-operation between their officers and the school.
They said they would continue their efforts to fight drug use in Gatineau schools.
On March 22, police arrested six students aged 13 to 17 at du Versant Secondary School in Gatineau, on suspicion of smoking marijuana and selling contraband cigarettes.
Lieut. Jean-Paul LeMay said the school's principal called the Gatineau police school-resource officer because he was worried about students smoking marijuana during lunchtime, and the effect it would have on their studies. _________________ kyranŠ
