Does anyone here find, in addition to their more 'conventional' syntypes, stray objects or substances popping up?
I really have no idea what type of syn this would be, if it is a type at all, but when I play piano, as well as the chord-to-colour which is normal for me, some seemingly random chords have an object associated with them. Like my colour associations, these are only associated with a chord in a particular part of a particular song; the same chord in another song or in a verse as opposed to a chorus will probably be different.
One chord is a wooden doorknob - pale wood, and on the side, facing right. The chord that follows it is made of wood but is otherwise shaped as a chord would normally be. In another song, there is a chord that is a grey, metallic sail. Another song has a section that is made out of horrible pink plastic, and which I don't like (and this section is an octave higher than another identical section, which has no associated substance and is a different colour, and which I have no problem with). Another song has a chord which is a forest or cluster of pine trees.
These are the only ones I've noticed at the moment. The randomness of the associations makes me inclined to think it's synesthesia, but I'm not sure what type. Even my normal colour associations are hard to pin down a stimulus for between the visual of playing the piano (the shape of the chords on the keys) and the sound the chords make.
So, does anyone else have anything similar to this?
I sometimes get random images from songs. I mean really random: coat-hangers, seahorses, gorillas, cow-patterned squares, dancing broomsticks, and characters from Disney movies.
Oh, and there's one particularly noxious smell that gives me the feeling of a rose and a bottle of wine.
Oh, all the time. I have intersections. It's always with my concept syn, but I have tons of responses that are real intersections from my town and the surrounding towns. The cool thing is, some of the intersections have had road construction and new buildings/businesses in the last few years, but my syn responses still show them as they were in the past.
As for narrowing down what type of syn it is -- do you still get those object responses (btw I like your doorknob one) when you play with your eyes closed? When you play looking at something other than what you normally look at -- say a candle or a houseplant? Do some experimenting.
I don't know if this counts, but certain parts in a piece of music kept making me 'see' (or feel?) the letter S. The music was also quite green, so I thought it was very much like a snake. I almost saw the S. Well, I didn't but what I mean is, it was so strong, sudden and repetitive, it was felt like I could almost see it.
