By popular demand, the New Scientist 'typical' synaesthetic alphabet:

a - red
b - blue (brown)
c - yellow (purple)
d - brown (blue)
e - green (yellow)
f - tan, brown, green
g - green (brown)
h - yellow (green)
i - white (grey)
j- purple (tan)
l - grey
m - red (brown)
n - brown
o - white
p - purple (light and dark)
q - purple (light and dark), grey
r - red (green)
s - yellow (red)
t - black (blue)
u - grey (white)
v - purple
w - tan (blue)
x - black
y - yellow (light green)
z - black
*k is not here because apparently it isn't associated with any colour

The colours in brackets are the other popular option.

I wonder, does anyone have that much brown/tan in their alphabet?

I don't have that much brown/tan (unless you count mixed with dark red).  I have a lot of dark navy blue/navy blue-purple.  Honestly, I really don't like navy blue, so it's rather depressing that my alphabet has about 8 letters like that.  -_-'

I definitely don't have that much brown.
The ones that match mine:
a - red
d - (blue)
f - brown
g - (brown)
i - white
m - red
q - purple (light and dark), grey --my Q is a blue-purple-grey. Strange.
s - yellow
y - yellow
z - black --kind of. It's dark grey.

I have quite a bit of yellow in my alphabet.

I have greyish brown g, terracotta-ish red-brown d, j is kind of browny-orange (more orange than brown though), n is orangey brown, and k is dark, dark brown. So yes, a fair bit of brown, and matching on the d, g, j and n.

I also match on b (blue), c (yellow), e (green) i and o (white), r (red), s (yellow), u (white), w (blue - but really light, almost white) and y (yellow).

So I guess I'm a bit of a synesthetic conformist!

I have letters that go brown or tan in words. F does that (though by itself it's yellow), and R goes caramel-colored on me a whole lot (by itself it's purplish). Oh and D sometimes goes tan too. And J. M by itself is a frappucino color, N by itself is orangey-brown. That's really about it. (Wow - that's more tan/brown than I thought I had!  sticking your tongue out  cool )

Letters that match or sort of match for me:

e - spring green
g - darker green
i - very very pale blue, almost white
m - (brown)
n - brown, if there's a healthy amount of orange in there too

Most of my letters have some tan ot brown into them, even if they don't 'radiate' these colours, and the tint is kept inside, but I can feel it. It feels like the letters have layers.

Main letters that have tan or brown:

B - blue; b - red-orange
D - red
G - crimson
H - light-blue-green; h - orange-brown
M - yellow, red, blue; m - pale red-orange
P - undefined; p - dark turquoise
Q - purpule, crimson
U - deep blue
X - orange-tawny

To me, k is not associated with any particular colour, and it tends to change in different words more than the other letters.
E is green and S is yellow, but except these I don't find many others that match mine.

Ones that match or are close:

d = brown (actually an orange brown)
e = (yellow)
n = brown (actually a dried blood color...)
o = white
r = red (actually dried blood color as well) = navy blue
x, z = black (actually a dark navy blue)

Well, now we have the authoritative Trends list. Lemme see how I match up to that one.

a - no
b - yes
c - not at all
d - no
e - no
f - yes
g - no
h - no
i - yes
j- yes
l - no
m - yes
n - no
o - yes
p - no
q - not really, but if my Q wasn't brown, she'd be purple
r - not really
s - does pink count as a form of red?
t - no
u - yes
v - no, but if V wasn't green I think she would be purple or silver
w - tan, brown, same difference
x - yes
y - yes
z - no

So that's 10 out of 23, plus a few sortas.
And yes, I really do have four whole tan/brown letters in my alphabet.

a - red
b - blue
c - not sure, green and yellow...erm, I don't know.
d - I don't think it has one
e - yellow and a bit like clammy toes
f - lightish green
g - I don't think it has one
h - sometimes straw coloured, sometimes very very pale light green. Maybe I'm making this up. I don't know
i - doesn't have one
j - doesn't have one
k - sort of greyish blue? maybe it doesn't have one
l - sometimes red?
m - sometimes red, sometimes greyish blue
n - slightly red?
o - not sure what colour, but sort of a bit like skin. I don't know.
p - don't know. This is sort of like clammy skin, too. Like a cold toe?
q - nothing
r - maybe nothing
s - green
t - maybe nothing
u - maybe nothing
v - red?
w - green?
x - sometimes red, sometimes dark blue?
y - nothing?
z - I DON'T KNOW

I'm thinking now that I don't have syn at all. I think maybe I just amde all that up. I always feel like that. They're probably not consistent.

If there are any associations there, they're so small and faint, they're hardly there at all.

I think it depends how they're said rather than how they look and whole words together bring more of a response.

I don't know.

My numbers are more definite than the letters anyway. I just have to think of a year and it's the colour depending on the numbers, e.g. 2006 is orange because of the 6.

Anyway, now I'll go and look at the typical alphabet. I wanted to write mine first so I knew I wasn't being influenced by it.

I think you do. Letter-color syn is just one type of syn. Also, even if a person only has one letter that gives them a color, as long as it meets the criteria then it counts as syn.

Your number colors are very strong. And I know you have sound syn. Just take it slow and be patient with your letters, and of course ask for help or opinions here if you ever want to.

And don't feel bad if there are some letters you can't pin down. I still can't tell about my 8.  smile

Hmmm. I keep feeling as if I made them up though.
