Want to get into 4th Edition

Postby Doug on Sun Jul 12, 2009 2:03 pm

I've been thinking of campaign ideas. But if I do another campaign, It has to be 4th edition and I have to understand the rules. Any advice? Can I sit-in on one of your campaigns? Kinda just make up moves for me if I'm having a busy week? I might just need to study 4th Ed. for a while, actually. What's your opinions?

The hardest part of learning a new edition to Dnd is the combat. 4th Edition has the coolest combat system yet. Make yourself very familiar with how encounter, utility, daily and at-will powers work. How movement and squares work as well. I found myself overwhelmed by having so many players with such little knowledge of 4th edition. Now that I'm playing a character in the Darkenfel campaign, I have found it is much easier for me to get into the combat. I also feel that my ability to do combat is much better for the Destiny of Immortality campaign. There has only been one combat so far for Agrabaeus, but I think it went quite well. I'm fixing to add a second character for him, so lets see how that turns out.

I think your best bet would be to do a solo campaign with Embraco for a few weeks, possibly a small side trek adventure to the continent of Torin to visit some old minotaur friends. This way, when your pressed for time, it won't slow down the Darkenfel campaign. You can get more familiar with Embraco's powers. He has some really cools powers that you didn't utilize in the Lady Saharel campaign. He can be devastating.

First off, get the books! :D

I agree with Nik. That is the best way to approach this. If you are serious about getting into the e4 rules a Solo with Embraco would be the best idea since Nik is offering.

Yeah, a solo campaign with Embraco would be perfect, actually. I'm down. That way I wont slow down the Darkenfel campaign when I have busy weeks and stuff. And yeah...the freaking books....I think Charlie gave them to me on my flash drive, actually. I still haven't taken them off of there. But I would really rather have the books. I'll try to find them used, I can't afford to buy them new right now.

So OK, cool, let's get a campaign started for Embraco. He needs to enlist the help of a lot of minotaurs in order to build an establishment (and ultimately a castle/fortification).

Just let me know when you are ready to start. You need to upgrade Embraco to 7th level. I'll talk to you about magic items later that were in his backpack. You really need the PHB to look over what you might want and to select the appropriate powers and feats. If you want, we can get together this weekend and do it. I think I have Saturday evening off.

Sounds good, yeah I need to invest in a PHB. I have it on digital file, though. I don't think I'm coming to Aiken this weekend but we'll see. It depends on how much I get done today and tomorrow, but you understand. I think realistically sometime around or after our camping trip would be a good time to start a new campaign. That's when this crazy semester will be finished. I will actually have a 4 day break, and thats around the second week of August so that will probably be the time.

So do I get to travel by sea to Torin, or do I just start in Torin? Have any ideas yet?

The campaign will start the the Monastery of the Precipice that you stopped at in Spellgard during the Lady Saharel campaign. It will start the morning following you leaving the tower with you eating breakfast with the minotaurs you met previously. You have to figure out how your getting to Torin.
