The hardest part of learning a new edition to Dnd is the combat. 4th Edition has the coolest combat system yet. Make yourself very familiar with how encounter, utility, daily and at-will powers work. How movement and squares work as well. I found myself overwhelmed by having so many players with such little knowledge of 4th edition. Now that I'm playing a character in the Darkenfel campaign, I have found it is much easier for me to get into the combat. I also feel that my ability to do combat is much better for the Destiny of Immortality campaign. There has only been one combat so far for Agrabaeus, but I think it went quite well. I'm fixing to add a second character for him, so lets see how that turns out.
I think your best bet would be to do a solo campaign with Embraco for a few weeks, possibly a small side trek adventure to the continent of Torin to visit some old minotaur friends. This way, when your pressed for time, it won't slow down the Darkenfel campaign. You can get more familiar with Embraco's powers. He has some really cools powers that you didn't utilize in the Lady Saharel campaign. He can be devastating.
First off, get the books!
