They will be flattered that you thought enough about them to follow up. You and I both know good customer service is a thing of the past. Always remember, most people are not going to do something on their own. No matter what type of marketing you do, always include a call to action. Examples are; Sign up for my email and receive a free gift, or Visit my site now and bid on the latest, greatest widget you find listed there.
