Track available for walking around?

Postby cord4530 on Sun Apr 27, 2008 11:40 pm

I'll be taking a trip to Bend, OR on May 9th, so I'll be passing right through Grass Valley in the early afternoon. I'd love to take a walk around the track location, but wanted to see if that was possible or not. I think I have a good idea where the track is at based on the zoning document, but it would be good to verify this with someone.

well, I'm a little late with the response.   :(

I hope you took the time to check it out.  If so, what did you think?

Actually, my trip got posponed since they didn't have the bike in stock yet. But we're hoping they have it within the month so I'll still be taking a trip that direction.

It looks like it is just under 2 miles out Blagg Lane. The new satalite imagery is amazing. You can definitely see the building/barn in the satalite shots on Google Earth/maps.

I'll let you know when I'm actually headed your direction.

Wow! I got to stop by the track today on my way back home from Bend. We got to talk with Bob and Brett (right name?) They were busy putting in the stakes around the corners.

The layout is amazing! It's hard to see the elevation change in the pictures (though the helmet cam was big help). The banking on some of the corners is unreal (14° in Half Pipe!). Even the straights have some nice ungulation/climb to them. Plenty of elevation change before/in/after corners as well. It certainly looks a lot more technical than any other tracks in the NW, and the layout leaves plenty of room for safe runoff areas too. It was really inspiring to see the track taking shape. I brought my handheld GPS along, and what I recorded looks just like the latest development plan.

Very exciting project, and fun to see the progress as well. That was the highlight of my trip.

I'm glad you had the chance to swing by and take a look. The contractors are making a ton of progress, it's hard to believe how fast they can get things done. We're all like kids on a long car ride........are we there yet? when are we going to be there?

I just can't wait to see the finished product and fire up the race car in Grass Valley for the first time.

Hi

I scanned the entire area using Google Earth, but I'm 'virtually lost'.
I even followed the road mentioned out 'for miles'.

Can someone give me a longitude/latitude or a link from google earth?

No problem!

Lat:  45°21'50.76"N
Lon: 120°44'41.99"W

You turn to the east right by the school (I think it was "North St." which eventually turnes in to Blagg. Just over a mile down the gravel road is the entrance on the left. They even had an Oregon Raceway Park sign (small) posted at the entrance. It's a dirt road for ~1/4 mile to where cars were parked.

Let me know if you want me to send you something from Google Earth. I could email you a file with the GPS track I captured while walking around the course.
