| Posted: Fri Nov 17, 2006 8:24 pm Post subject: Posting Rule changes, updated:17 November 2006 |
|
|
Hello, Fellow members,
I have been doing alot of thinking over the last couple of months.
I've come to the conclusion,
that I've maybe been a little tougher on some of the posting rules
than I probably should have been.
From day one on the very first forum I've said that there would be no off topic chatty posts on the forum and that came from a policy that I was used to from another forum
I had been on.
The problem with that for us at least is this is
NOT an established forum with thousands of members that must be monitored full time.
Most of our members are already famillier with forum "eitiquet"
and don't really need constant reminders of things in the past [for some]
So for that rule I've made the following amendment
As long as your post is on topic to an extent even if it is
a little "chatty"
I will allow it.
I mean hell, this is a discussion forum,
we're supposed to discuss topics that appeal to us.
So who am I to say that you cannot
ask another member how they are doing or even calling them by name in your post.
To me that is just plain
silly to punish anyone for discussing a topic
in their own style.
The one and two word post rule WILL stand meaning any post that is simply
Thats cool or AWESOME
or even just LOL will be deleted.
Folks honestly
these topics are here for discussion
not one and two word posts that add NOTHING
to the discussion at hand regardless of topic string.
So I think it is just plain silly and stupid to be a "hard ass"
on nit picky bullshit.
I will say that you DO need to stay on topic as much as possible meaning
If the topic is about a military weaponry subject
there is no need to discuss your favorite TV show or movie.
We have topics for those in the general entertainment area.
I feel that our men and women in the military live a life of enough
tough rules in their daily lives.
I think we would better serve them by
allowing them to relax a bit while they have some down time,
that I think is better served forgetting all the
"do'es" and "don't s" their lives revolve around on a daily basis
and let them relax a bit and discuss
things that they want to discuss
not what some arrogant mod, admin
or even board founder dictates they should be discussing.
So I'm lightning up the rules a tad that I feel is within reason.
I DO NOT want this forum to be like every other forum out there.
Oh no, I want ours to be "Special".
I want us to be friendly, Welcoming, and as easy going as we can be.
But at the same time I don't want it to be a "free-for-all" either.
I hope you all can understand my line of thinking on this new direction.
Lets see where this takes us and hope that the membership numbers and
participation levels from those that are here will continue to grow.
Best wishes,
