USS MOMSEN is the 14th Flight IIA ARLEIGH BURKE - class guided missile destroyer and the Navy's first ship to honor Vice Admiral Charles Bowers "Swede" Momsen, who is best known for his efforts in the successful rescue of 33 crew members and the subsequent salvage of submarine USS SQUALUS after she sank in 240 feet of water in May 1939. He received a commendation from President Franklin D. Roosevelt for these actions.

CVW-2 deployed onboard the CONSTELLATION for her final cruise on 2 November 2002 and returned to homeport on 2 June 2003. During the final cruise together, CVW-2 and CONSTELLATION BG conducted combat operations in support of Operation SOUTHERN WATCH and CVW-2 aircrew lead the opening strikes on Baghdad at the start of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. CVW-2 and CONSTELLATION flew 26 continuous days of combat over Iraq, clearing the way for our ground force advance on Baghdad. Port calls during the cruise included Hong Kong, China; Singapore; Manama, Bahrain; Perth, Australia; and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. This marked the last cruise between CVW-2 and CONSTELLATION; ending a 13 year history together.

S. Navy’s 87th Arabian Sea and Persian Gulf deployment since September 1945 operating under operational control of the US Naval Forces Central Command and 5th Fleet.Her 12th deployment since her commission 11 November 1989 ended; delivered to the U. S. Navy on 30 October 1989 and approximately the U. S. Navy's 789 th carrier FWFD.
The Abraham Lincoln Strike Group includes the Abraham Lincoln, Commanding Officer Capt. Patrick Hall, Rear Adm. Scott Van Buskirk, Commander, Carrier Strike Group Nine, Carrier Air Wing TWO, Capt. John Aquilino and Commander, Destroyer Squadron NINE, Captain James T. Loeblein directs Squadron Ships for the conduct of sustained naval operations and serves as Sea Combat Commander within its assigned Carrier Strike Group to include the USS Curts (FFG 38), guided-missile cruiser USS Mobile Bay (CG 53), and the guide-missile destroyers USS Russell (DDG 59), USS Momsen (DDG-92) and USS Shoup (DDG 86).

Her 11th deployment ended (27 February to 8 August 2006) since her commission 11 November 1989; delivered to the U. S. Navy on 30 October 1989 and approximately the US Navy's 766th carrier FWFD.

On 4 March 2005, Abraham Lincoln arrived Everett, Washington, disembarking CVW-2 operating out of her home port at Naval Air Station Lemoore at San Diego, Calif., ending her seventh “Westpac” deployment operating with the Pacific Fleet and 7th Fleet, her seventh Indian Ocean in support of PASSEX and Operation Unified Assistance in support of Tsunami Relief Efforts, extending operations in the Andaman Sea ended, operating under operational control of the US Naval Forces Central Command and 5th Fleet., Her tenth deployment since her commission.
Abraham Lincoln Strike group is comprised of Carrier Air Wing 14; Cruiser Destroyer Group 3 and Destroyer Squadron 31 consisting of the guided-missile cruisers USS Shiloh (CG 67); guided-missile destroyers USS Benfold (DDG 65) and USS Shoup (DDG 86); fast support ship USNS Rainier (T-AOE 7); and attack submarine USS Louisville (SSN 724)

On 6 May 2003, Abraham Lincoln arrived Everett, Washington, ending her sixth “Westpac” deployment operating with the Pacific Fleet and 7th Fleet, her sixth Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea/Gulf (Persian Gulf) deployment in support of Operation Southern Watch, enforcing the no-fly zone south of the 32nd parallel in Iraq, Operation Enduring Freedom ending 2 May 2003 with the end of Afghan combat and Operation Iraqi Freedom commencing 20 March 2003 operating under operational control of the US Naval Forces Central Command and 5th Fleet., Her ninth deployment since her commissions.
Abraham Lincoln Strike group is comprised of Carrier Air Wing 14; Cruiser Destroyer Group 3 and Destroyer Squadron 31 consisting of the guided-missile cruisers USS Mobile Bay (CG 53) and USS Shiloh (CG 67); guided-missile destroyer USS Paul Hamilton (DDG 60); destroyer USS Fletcher (DD 992); guided-missile frigates USS Crommelin (FFG 37) and USS Ruben James (FFG 57); replenishment ship USS Camden (AOE 2); and attack submarines USS Honolulu (SSN 718) and USS Cheyenne (SSN 773). Amphibious Squadron 5 and USCG Law Enforcement Det 106 was assigned in 2002
