Truck driver said he felt the impact, and it took almost a 1/4 mile

That is just crazy. Just goes to show that you need to watch your speed and pay attention to the road. _________________

Oh wow!! That is one thing my dad hated when he was driving his truck. My brother too. That and cars who would pass you only to pull right in front of you to slow down. I guess ppl think these trucks can stop on a dime. _________________

When Johnny was in high school & driving his Dad's compact model of a "Charger" (yeah - the old muscle car that turned into a Chevette sized thing in the early 1990's), he pulled into the rt lane to turn rt to go to school - and Jessi, my daughter was a passenger - & a semi who was in the straight-going lane and had no turning signals on according to witnesses as well, took a right & dragged that Charger about 50 feet before a cop who heard the grinding sound from 2 blocks away hauled ass there from the school to stop the trucker. He didn't even know he had hooked up to the Charger & they stopped inches from creaming a power pole - and no exaggeration. That was in about 1997 & the torn up curb & ditch the Charger tires made along the lawn side of the curb are still there. Got the call that night after work that every mother fears so much but all were fine - just VERY shook up. Trucker was taken to jail for tweaking. Scares the hell outa' me. And ppl who will pass a semi on the right on a highway - DEATH WISHES???????? _________________

*Puts on trucker hat
WAM, Johnny and Jessi are VERY lucky it was not worse than it was for them.
I could tell you a million stories from my time out there but won't bore you to death
Seriously though I tell ANYBODY when driving around trucks DON'T ride next to the trailer wheels DON'T ride next to the steer tires[front of truck] and DON'T ride next to the drive tires[rear of the trucks cab]
Those are VERY dangerous areas to ride in especially on a motorcycle or small car.
Even SUV's CANNOT be seen in those areas and if one of those tires blow it could mean serious trouble for you if you are next to the one that goes.
Those tires are in most cases filled to 120 psi with air and that much air being forced out all at once can and WILL tear something up that it hits.
If you're going to pass a trucker pass him DO NOT ride next to that truck any longer than is necessary to pass him and go on about your business.
The trucker that hit your son and daughter had NO business driving that much vehicle while "tweaking."
Fortunately most drivers like that are dissapearing from our highways more and more but there STILL remains a "fringe element" trying to hold on to truckings "Glory days"
The point is that, it DON'T matter who is right or wrong when it comes to an accident involving a truck and car
80,000lbs VS at most 8,000lbs?
The odds are NOT in the favor of the smaller vehicle so it is just best to give the trucker as much room as you can if he messes up and wrecks by keeping your distance you increase your chances of not being involved and getting hurt bad or worse killed.
Look, trucking schools are turning out thousands of new inexperianced truck drivers EVEYDAY and the companies are putting those drivers in controll of large vehicles they are NOT quite prepared to handle yet It is scary but it is TRUE!!
So that driver you're passing might have 15 years experiance or he might have 15 minutes experience and you have NO way of knowing so just use your head and keep yourself safe while driving around 18 wheelers.
Oh and driving 120MPH on a motorcycle is an insane idea to begin with.
I don't mean to seem course here but that guy got just what he deserved acting a fool like that.
Sorry for his families loss but apparently he was not concerned about the what ifs enough to care so now they have to suffer for his stupidity.
BTW I know VERY well that highway where that happened I've been on it myself at least 1,000 times while I was driving in fact I've took a nap sitting right about where that Yellow truck is stopped in the pics above
Ahh the memories lol _________________ <table border="0" bordercolor="#F6FCFD" width="1" bgcolor="#F6FCFD">

LEMME guess...I-80....sooooo many accidents on I-80 - most in USA cause goes coast to coast & MANY of them are in Neb, Wyo, UT & Nev. Is horrid. I avoid it like death.
You're not telling me how lucky Johnny & Jessi are!!!! Guy tested + for meth & simply ran over the front of the little car (probalby more like 3000 lb). They both came SO close to dying. UGH!!!! The clues as to where the most dangerous spots are is good to know - Know they have a HUGE amt of psi & use a lot of recaps too...lord knows we see them all OVER the hwy's. I always go with the axiom - if you can't see the driver, he can't see you. I have 2 BIL's who are truckers & learned a lot from them. One has quit & is driving one of those trucks at a coal mine like Johnny drove - those monster dumps - one of which an idiot drove into the pit & parked right next to the right rear tires of Johnny's truck while J was waiting to know what side of the loader to drive up on & when he turned to the right - checking cameras & everything the PU couldn't be seen - and Johnny drove over the front of the engine compartment & didn't even know it until he caught it in the camera when he was far enough away from it for it to show up!!!! GASP!!! HE freaked out - he came so close to killing an idiot. Was not his fault & was counseled so & rules changed THAT DAY about notification of contracted workers who drive into the pit. They don't START into the pit until everybody knows where they are & are going. Ppl can be SUCH morons.....where was that accident? I hate those dam crotch rockets. _________________

Nope - sure doesn't....Wyo has over 35,000 semi's going across I-80 every day. My son Jim was on a recovery crew about 60 north of I-80 in southwestern Wyo for 2-3 years & cleaned up WAY more than his share of bad wrecks. Tell ya what - he is the only driver I would EVER be able to sleep in the truck while he is driving cause he's seen the worst of the worst. _________________
