Officer Anthony Holly was shot and killed during a traffic stop.
Officer Holly had responded as backup to another officer who had stopped a vehicle with three occupants. They had taken one suspect out of the vehicle and were removing a second suspect when he produced a handgun from his waistband and fired at the officers, striking Officer Holly.
The other officer returned fire, wounding the shooter, who was later captured and taken into custody. The third occupant was also taken into custody. Officer Holly was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix where he was pronounced dead.
Officer Holly was a 2 year veteran of the Glendale Police Department. He is survived by his girlfriend, parents, brother, and stepsister.

Officer Charles J. Callemyn was killed in a single vehicle accident while responding to back up another officer on a traffic stop.
Officer Callemyn lost control of his vehicle on Holloway Street and struck the underpass of North Carolina Highway 70 at approximately 3 am.
Officer Callemyn had served with the Durham police since April of 2005. He had also served as a Duke University police officer for six years and had served in both the United States Marine Corps and the Army Reserves. He is survived by his wife and two sons.

Sergeant Howard Plouff was fatally shot outside a bar after he responded to a call for help from sheriff's deputies at approximately 2:00 AM.
Four deputies were working off-duty security at the country western bar when a fight broke out during a private party. The fighting moved outside the bar and several shots were fired, one of which struck Sergeant Plouff. He was transported to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center where he succumbed to his wounds approximately 21 hours later.
Sergeant Plouff was a 17-year veteran of the Winston-Salem Police Department. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Suspect Info: One Charged with Murder
Police Officer Shelton and Police Officer Sean Clark were shot and killed after responding to a disturbance call.
At approximately 2330 hours, Officer Shelton and Officer Clark responded to a disturbance call in an East Charlotte housing complex on Barrington Drive. While investigating the disturbance, a struggle with a suspect ensued during which Officer Shelton and Officer Clarke were both shot.
Both Officers were transported to the Carolinas Medical Center where they died from their injuries.
The shooter fled the scene, but a suspect was later arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder. The suspect has five prior convictions for resisting arrest and assaulting a government official.
Officer Shelton had served with the Charlotte-Meckenburg Police Department for six years and was assigned to the North Tryon Division. He is survived by his wife.
