Troops face stray bullet.
A bullet fired by Iraqis celebrating their quarter-final victory over Vietnam in the Asian Cup narrowly missed three of Australias most senior soldiers yesterday in Baghdad.
The bullet, one of hundreds fired into the air by the jubilant Iraqis across Baghdad; landed in the green zone just where Australian Troops where listening to an address by Chief of Army Lieutenant General Peter Leahey.
“It just hit the ground and bounced [between me and Brigadier Justin Kelly]” said Regimental Sergeant Major of the Army Kevin Woods said.
From The Daily Telegraph printed Monday 23rd of July 2007. |
I can not begin to comprehend how stupid these people are. There have been several incidents like this over the past several years both in Iraq and Afghanistan where coalitions forces have either returned fire killing or wounding civilians or themselves being killed or wounded due to the severe lack of intelligence shown by these people.
If I recall correctly a rather serious incident involving a USAF F-16 pilot occurred some years back in Afghanistan when he came under fire from small arms fire below; believing this to be a real threat (as would any other sane person) after consulting the chain of command returned fire by the means of a bomb (not sure what specs). The explosion killed a wedding party. The wedding party deemed it fit to fire their weapons into the sky for the sake of celebration. Poor pilot now has this incident which is not his fault on his shoulders for the remainder of his life.
I can’t believe we have to put up with such stupidity.
Sorry for the rant folks but I needed to get this off my chest.

Makes you wonder if their intent was not more than just celebration?
I mean anybody with a basic knowledge of physics knows that what goes up must come down. You fire a bullet into the air it WILL come down somewhere they don't burn up in the atmosphere like a meteorite Maybe their wish is to inadvertently kill coalition forces who knows?
As for the rant? Nah no need to appalogise we all need to vent once in a while _________________ <table border="0" bordercolor="#F6FCFD" width="1" bgcolor="#F6FCFD">

Cheers mate. One would think that a a small ounce of common sense would have kicked in would it not? _________________

Yes it would but it appears that along with an obvious lack of human decency they severely lack any hint of common sense _________________ <table border="0" bordercolor="#F6FCFD" width="1" bgcolor="#F6FCFD">

Some of these people are little better than a trained monkey. I mean a 12 year old American CHILD who has had rudimentary training knows better than that! They get what they deserve when the allies fire on then, besides it decreases the surplus population of idiots. It's a win/win situation as long as our troops are not harmed. _________________

That's true.
There was no thinking involved. On my trips to Iraq (not having actually being deployed there) whilst in the Green Zone at our Embassy; the security and discipline over fire arms is that tight not even an anorexic model could slip through. Why these idiots deemed it ideal to fire live ammunition in a safer zone; "safer" being the operative word astounds me. _________________
