Posted: Fri Feb 02, 2007 12:37 pm    Post subject: TRIVIA CHALLENGE 2 Feb thru 9 Feb 07
· Quote

Ok it's my turn do do some trivia questions. For this weeks trivia we are going to ask some Navy related questions.

1. What battleship was not a "battleship" when it was sunk at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941?

2. What is the only US Battleship not named for a State?

3. Which states do not have battleships named for them? Why don't these States have Battleships named for them?

4. Name the only United States World War I battleship still afloat.

There is a total of 1000 possible reward posts for this challenge. Questions 1, 2, and 4 are worth 100 posts each for correct answers. Question 3 is worth a total of 700 posts, 350 for each of the two parts for correct answers. As always just for trying you'll get 50 posts. I'll announce the answers and winners on the 9th. Good luck!

1. What battleship was not a "battleship" when it was sunk at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941?
USS Utah
2. What is the only US Battleship not named for a State?
USS Kearsarge Named for a civil war ship instead

3. Which states do not have battleships named for them? Why don't these States have Battleships named for them?
Alaska and Hawaii these did not become states until 1959 after the end of battleship building
4. Name the only United States World War I battleship still afloat.
USS Texas
The Battleship TEXAS is the last dreadnought in existence in the world, a veteran of Vera Cruz (1914) and both World Wars, and is credited with the introduction and innovation of advances in gunnery, aviation and radar. Having been designed in the first decade of the 20th century, (keel laid in 1911 and completed in 1914), and having seen action in some of the most intense and critical campaigns of WWII, she is an important piece of our naval and maritime history.

I'm starting see some good answers here. One of the answers to question #3 can be a bit elusive so it's time for a hint.

One of the states that didn't have a battleship named after it was a true state, and the reason behind this state never having a battleship named after it was due to somewhat of a technicality.

Smitty - Don't give me credit for knowing any of them -I didn't! I cheated. Are you actually supposed to PM the answers to you I'm assuming? I shouldn't even get the points for giving it a shot. I'll give it a real shot at the next one. I was too lazy this time to actually look anything up myself w/o reading answers. Shocked

Laura, don't worry about it. We actually stay away from PMing answers, it leaves no room for anyone to shout favoritism. The answers go in the form of reply. It does make it hard, I know what you're saying. Usually I copy the questions to a new Word document, close the Forum, then do my research and type my answers on that document. When all finished I copy and paste the Word document as my reply. That's just my way of keeping myself in check. Thanks for being honest, but please do try to answer some next time.

ROFLMAO thats too funny Walts. I used to be the same way but since I've started doing these I've gained a certain love for trivia. I learn so much from doing them even though I almost threw my computer out the window over afsp's first challenge a couple of weeks ago crash  go ahead and give one or two a shot if you take a notion to do so. They are set up so that you can't loose as long as you participate. Couple of days left to try this one if you'd like [nudge, nudge]
Oh and yes Laura answers that are Pm'd are void and usually ignored, all guesses must be posted in the thread in order to be counted so that we stay away from accusations of foul play [as if Shocked ]
I thank you for your honesty as well.
