Reason for this thread: To honor fallen fire fighters that lost their lives in the line of duty. Also see added comments at the bottom of this post.
The United States Fire Administration (USFA) has received notice of the
following firefighter fatality:

Name:  Ronald Phillip Allen, Jr.
Rank:  Lieutenant
Age:  36 (12/04/1969)
Gender:  Male

Incident Description:  Lieutenant Allen was marking the locations of
fire hydrants with spray paint on the road surface.  After stopping at
the location of one hydrant, setting vehicle hazard lights on, and
exiting to the front of the vehicle to make a mark, the brush-truck
apparatus was hit from behind by another vehicle and crashed forward on
top of Lieutenant Allen.  Allen was pronounced at the scene of the
incident.

Heel Baptist Church.  The funeral service was conducted Monday,

http://www.usfa.dhs.gov/fatalities/

To date, 76 firefighter fatalities have been reported to USFA in 2006
Though it has been 17 years since I was a voulenteer firefighter I still remember what it was like being in bad situations and trying to help people that needed it urgently I still have a high reguard for these folks and felt it appropriate to honor the fallen among them.
