AS most of you know I am a stroke survivor 3 years now.
I was doing research last night/this morning and come across a forum for stroke survivors and joined as if I needed ANOTHER forum to participate on lol.
But anyway I like the folks there and they can relate to what I've been through and I think it will help me being able to help others that might need encouragement and motivation to not give up.
I'm posting this here because the stroke statistics in America ore high and we ALL need to know what to do and expect if our spouses, friends or other loved ones suffer a stroke.
Did you know that
Quote:
Each year about 700 000 people experience a new or recurrent stroke. About 500 000 of these are first attacks, and 200 000 are recurrent attacks

And that
Quote:
On average, every 45 seconds someone in the United States has a stroke.

Finally:
Quote:
Stroke accounted for about 1 of every 15 deaths in the United States in 2003. About 50% of these deaths occurred out of hospital. Stroke as an underlying or contributing cause of death—about 273 000.

So judging by the statistics above you can see that strokes are a frequent occurrence in our society and we should educate ourselves on what to do if you think that you're spouse or even a complete stranger could be having a stroke.
Time is NOT your friend if you suffer a stroke!!
Had I gotten the proper care within the right time frame the damage from my stroke could have been reduced or even  eliminated and I would not have had the struggles I've endured the last 3 years.
If you'd like to look around the stroke board click url below if you join tell them Outsider sent ya;-)

Side note
since my stroke on 2004 I've suffered at least 3 additional strokes that were not enough to cause symptoms or anything major just further scaring my brain  which is the evidence of their  occurance.
This Friday 28 Sept I'm scheduled for a new MRI to be done because I'm having numbness on might right side now so the Doctor wants to be sure I'm not in for another stroke that would effect my other side and really set me back on all of the progress I've made the last three years.

OS, this is totally true!!  Working in the hospital I can attest to the importance of getting to the hospital  with in 3 hours of the onset of symptoms.  There is meds that can be administered to help control the amount of side effects you may suffer from stroke.  Please, please, if it is you or a family member and you even think you may be having a stroke, go to the ER immediately.

You can learn how to recognize a srtoke or potential stroke symptoms by clicking HERE
I urge EVERYBODY to learn  what the symptoms are the life you save could be that of a loved one or even your OWN.
Stroke knows NO age limit there is one member of the stroke board who suffered a stroke at the age of 9 I was only 30 so I don't recommend taking any chances on not knowing what to do or how quickly to act.Find out more about stroke statistics click HERE
