Indy had a solid drive killed on another dumbass reversal by NFL head dumbass Walt Coleman. Late first quarter, Colts WR Anthony Gonzalez makes a nice catch of a tipped pass for a first down. It was a tough call, but the call on the field was completion...Colts first down. Then along comes Coleman.
I've mentioned it numerous times, but it stands repeating. The replay rule is VERY CLEAR..."a decision will be reversed only when a Referee has indisputable visual evidence available to him that warrants the change." For Walt Coleman's benefit, I've included a link to the online Merriam-Webster dictionary (http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book=Dictionary&va=indisputable) which defines indisputable. For those of us with an education beyond second grade and decent vision, there was no indisputable evidence on the replay. Plain and simple, you couldn't tell for sure if the catch was clean or hit the ground. In such cases, the original call must stand. But as usual with NFL referees and Coleman in particular, replay is a crap shoot and in this case, the Colts got screwed.
Indy won the game, so no harm, no foul? Maybe...but don't we want officials who know and FOLLOW the rules? |
