From one of my favorite sportswriters, Gregg Easterbrook of ESPN...
Oakland appeared to beat Denver in overtime as Sebastian Janikowski kicked a 52-yard field goal, but officials ruled the Broncos' sideline had called timeout an instant before the kick. The Raiders missed the rekick, then Denver scored the other way. Until a few years ago, timeouts had to be called by a player on the field. The rule was changed to allow the sideline to call time. Coaches are misusing the rule by signaling time just as the ball is snapped, and officials are allowing those timeouts: It looked to me as though the Raiders snapped the ball just as Mike Shanahan formed a T signal, and the kick should have counted. This rule needs to be amended for the field goal situation. The sideline timeout is being misused, and the result is suspicious-looking turns of events, as happened Sunday in Denver. |

| Denver benefits from a close call at home. Imagine that. The Broncos seem to have a pretty strong homefield advantage, and I don't mean the altitude. |

| I think it's a very strong possiblity that the Raiders will NEVER beat Denver at home. It has nothing to do with the refs or home field advantage. I think the Raiders talked themselves out of ever winning there ever a long time ago and if they weren't such pussies sometimes they could pull their heads out of their asses and get over the mental loss that already has them losing before they even step foot inside the stadium and actually pull one out every now and then!!!!! They should have played in the thunder and lightning, maybe it would have scared them into winning!!!! |
