| An Eagles player jumps offsides and is getting back when a whole second later, the Giants player across from him false starts. The call? Neutral zone infraction. How the call goes that way is beyond me. |

Peyton Manning has made an art form out of taking advantage of this foolishness. Last year in the playoff game against Baltimore someone jumped offsides, didn't touch anyone then got back onsides with no problem. Manning jumps up and starts yelling at his right tackle who stands up. Yellow flags fly. What's the call? You guessed it...Encroachment - defense. The 5 yards got the first down on a third and 4+. I mean if anyone caused the tackle to move it was Manning yelling about a full second after the defense was back onsides.
Some will say it's a smart player taking advantage of the rules. I say it a dumb rule.
And another one that's dumb is the 'Unabated to the quarterback' thing I've seen called numerous times this year. I don't see that one being any different than the one mentioned above. No one was touched, no one flinched on the offensive side and the defense is back onsides before the snap, yet the ref's have to stop the play before it starts and call a penalty. |
