I received quite a few emails about this game. I have my own observations. Specifically, I thought the Illegal Hands call against NY which kept the Pats first TD drive alive was total BS, especially when I see the Pats secondary doing the exact same thing without drawing a flag. Some other comments I received...
"giants-pats was the latest and most obvious example yet [that's really
saying something] of horrendous unrelenting favoritism or pathetic
incompetence in the reality show that is the NFL - due to the refs, and
the league that (as you say) doesn't give a damn as long as the money is
rolling in" - Dennis

"I do believe the NFL officials suck. The majority of the bad calls are rooted in true incompetence. However, I think a lot of it comes from the tendency of all sports officials to favor the star player or star team. In last nights game, Randy Moss was the beneficiary of a fairly weak pass interference call in the end zone. Earlier in the game he was not flagged on a clear offensive pass interference call on a 4th down conversion. Also, on an important third down play, the Pats ran a screen play for about 15 yards ans a 1st down. When they showed the replay, to point out how Moss blocked on the play it clearly showed him holding and the tripping the defensive back. The Pats went on to score.
Start paying attention to who gets hurt most often by bad calls. It is almost always the lesser player and the weaker team." - Jeff

"Bad officiating is the standard in the NFL. You can’t watch a big NFL game without at some point wondering which team the refs are betting on. For all the talk of “spygate,” the real knock on this Patriots season is going to be the questionable officiating that helped them reach 16-0.
You remember the late penalty in the end zone that catapulted the Patriots to victory over the Ravens? Well, there was nothing that bad in this game, but New England certainly benefited from a ridiculous unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Amani Toomer as the Giants started their final TD drive.
A New England player slipped and fell to the ground along the New York sideline, and a ref threw a flag, claiming Toomer hit the player. A play later, the refs flagged Toomer for holding. There was no need for the Patriots to employ a prevent defense. The refs were determined to prevent New York from mounting a rally." - Jason Whitlock, KC Star |
