Down by contact my ass.  Jags cornerback Mathis picks off Rothlesberger and returns the int to the Steelers 20.  After review, he's ruled down by contact at the point of interception despite the fact that the nearest Steeler was 5 yards away.  Are we again witnessing NFL officials trying to manipulate an NFL playoff game?  Or is the official just an idiot?

And then before the half, Steeler WR Santonio Holmes makes a clean catch deep in Jags territory.  The ball may have touched the ground, but according to the rulebook, that's OK as long as the ground didn't aid in the catch and the WR had possession before the ball touched the ground.  Holmes made a clean catch and the ruling on the field was a catch, yet the play was overturned on replay.  Two terrible calls in the first half.

4th and goal, under 7 minutes to play and Pitt down by 5, Hines Ward and Jags CB Mathis are all over each other on an incomplete pass.  Mathis was grabbing Ward, but Ward had a hold of Mathis' facemask.  Who gets the penalty?  Mathis.  Nice job officials!  Way to miss the blatant facemask.

It looked like Hines Ward used Mathis' face mask to drag him along and then when Mathis was falling he grabbed Ward.  It seems like the officials were trying to keep the Steelers in the game.   Seen this 'trying to keep the popular team in the game' by the refs before.

The officials also did a make-up call against the Steelers with the phantom hold on the center on the successful 2 point try.   Seen that move before too.  At this point I'd had enough and went to bed.

As far as the down by contact you are right he wasn't down by contact but his dreadlocks are clearly out of bounds.

Show me the hold on the 2 point conversion by Shawn Mahan.   It was a 2-3 step drop and a fade you can't hold on that.  Also go to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette and look up the January 6th sports section and look at the clear grasp the Jags defender had on Hines Wards facemask during the play.  At the very least penalites should have offset and the Steelers should have had another shot from the 2.  Also I believe Hampton and Foote got tackled on that great 4th and 2 run.  Oh I almost forgot about the catch by Holmes that was OVERTURNED.  Has anyone ever heard of Bert Emanuel or the definiton of conclusive?  Oh the next play was an interception.  Just horrible.  The steelers gave it away, but if the officials would have called it correctly they still would have won.
