Yeah, I'm thinking about doing the dreaded Hiatus. I'd like to see your input in the matter though. What do you think about Hiatuses in general? Have you seen them done well in other comics? Would there be a best time of year to have a scheduled one? Whats your opinions about a break from the comic where other stuff gets put online for a while like sketches, or a silly side story?
My reasons for wanting to take a break:
I'm out of script. If I take this break, I'll be able to write more script and maybe even get some backlog without stressing.
My problem with CFS has gotten worse, it wasn't just a bad spell. I'm not sure how to properly compensate to still get the comic done.
I'm getting seriously tired of the story and think that taking a break might be what I need to get back into it.
I'm currently trying to fight with the government about disability, and that interferes with my ability to work on my comic.
My reasons to keep going:
I started this to practice being consistent and finishing things. If I stop for a break, I won't be doing either.
I'm very afraid that if I take a break, I'll be tempted to just stop. Not meaning I'll never pick it up again, but that I won't use the break to get where I need to be.

It sounds as if you really need a break: as Narf said, your health has to come first, not to mention the problem of getting the government to do the right thing. But even aside from that, if you are getting tired of the story then pushing yourself to continue would probably not be the way to go. I enjoy "The Sealed Gate" very much, and I really hope that a break will enable you to get back into it - don't kill yourself over it!

Thanks for the new logo! It looks cool. 
I vote for the hiatus, without expectations. Your health is most important, and it sounds like the thing you could be concentrating on being consistent with and finishing would be the disability process with the government. If you have time/energy to get ahead with the comic, happiness; if not, don't stress it.

*tears up* You guys are really wonderful! I was expecting an "that'd be okay if you have to", but this... this is why I keep hearing comic authors say that their readers are the best in the world.
Narf, I think of you as one of my internet friends too.
Treyva, I was really worried what you think about the new logo. I value your opinion on things a lot, because you'll tell me when you don't like something, and why. I'll have to try to get it on the merchandise for you soon.
I'm going to talk things over with a few of the people who have a more immediate knowledge of what's going on, and I'll be deciding soon. Thank you so much for your support.

I have a few suggestions for the logo, but I say let's leave them until you are feeling better. 
I think it's so cool that you went to the trouble of tinkering it because of me.

Alright, I've decided in favor of the hiatus. The official announcement will go up next Tuesday, with the last comic. Even though I'm in the middle of everything I tried to make this comic have a chapter break feel. Thank you for your help.
Treyva, might as well tell me now, I can never predict when I'm going to feel well, don't know how you intend to do it.

Of course, since I'm an amateur at best, and a pushy ignoramus at worst, these are just my thoughts.
I'd like to see a more contrasting color in either the background rectangle or the title itself. I'd also like to see the background rectangle less symmetrical to compliment the title's new look.
Another idea would be to take the rectangle out completely. I think the title would look great on the banners by itself. On the main page, it would need something to set it off from the background color, which brings in my contrasting color idea.
Well Styled seems to be a pretty good color scheme tool. I only played with it a little, but the one I used to love is down, seemingly indefinitely. |

There's a reason for the black rectangle and the reason it looks like it does, but it won't be obvious until well into the comic. So that means that playing with the color of it is out. I could take it out completely, I'll try it to see how it looks.

Just wanted to say this: I don't pretend to speak for anybody else, but I bet those readers that have hung around till now won't mind a week more of hiatus. Take your time. We're waiting, but we're not impatient. The comic has to be second to your health and many other things in life. Don't let it stress you. We'll be here, and we'll read, and we'll comment on it. |
