Roger directed this one, and I think he did a great job too!

Nice to see Shirley Eaton again, she did the very first "Saint" but didn't she make 3 altogether?

Yes Connie, as well as the first one "The Talented Husband" and "Invitation To Danger" she also did "The Effete Angler."

I loved "Invitation To Danger" it had a good mix of action and suspense, and I'm sure the little touches of wit in the script had something to do with Roger. I loved it when, after Simon had been tied up and hit on his face, he said " You need a manicure!"

Here's some pics.  Interesting to see Les Crawford, who was the series fight arranger, in an acting role, even though it wasn't a big part, and he ended up getting killed.

I loved the funny dialogue between Simon and the lady in the perfume shop.  In one of their exchanges Simon admires the perfume she is wearing and she tells him it's twenty five pounds an ounce, and is called "Perhaps." Simon says "For that sort of money I'd want something a little more definite!"

An interesting scene this: Simon mentions in the story that he is going to "The Royal Garden Hotel" (situated in Kensington, London) to see the character played by Shirley Eaton.  Was it a coincidence I wonder,  that  2 years after the show, when Roger married his third wife Luisa,  they had their wedding reception in ......the very same hotel?

This was an exciting episode, one of the best from the color series. the dialog was brilliant and the story was complex and suspenseful. There were a couple of things that puzzled me about the story. Why would a secret agent employ the girl and Simon's friend turned enemy to help him steal the money and frame the Saint? or rather, why would a secret agent frame anyone at all or work so hard on stealing the money instead of concentrating on stealing the file (which was more important) and destroying the whole operation? Another part I found confusing was that the girl in the perfume shop knew Mr. Sunley and that he was looking for the Saint. How did Sunley know Simon would be paying the shop a visit? It didn't make sense to me. Any comments?  :smt017

Hi nelly_smith,
I haven't seen this one for a while now, but as far as I can recall, didn't Shirley Eaton's character purposely leave a small bottle of perfume in Simons' car? It had the name on it  of the exclusive shop where it was purchased. Simon, being very curious,  paid a visit to the shop. The girl  who worked there was able to give details of who the perfume belonged to.

Yes, but I was referring to Mr. Sunley, who was the main bad guy in the story and the owner of the casino. How did he know Simon was going to visit the perfume shop? Remember, the girl at the shop called Sunley on the phone the moment Simon left and gave him the address where the Saint was going? And that's how Sunley's heavies knew where to find Shirley Eaton's character. That's the part I didn't understand.

i watched invitation to danger recently and never noticed this until i read your post.  :smt002 my only explanation is that sunley owned half the town and had spies working for him everywhere. reb denning, i.e. shirly eaton, ordered her perfume at the shop because she knew sunley had connections there.
