Yet another one of Leslie Charteris' sci-fi stories. The original had a (&^% "The Man Who Liked Ants". Can't say I blame them for changing the (&^%, lol, since they already had "The Man Who Liked..." in other episode names.
There are people who say that this was an episode that took Simon too far into the realm of science-fiction, but like you, I enjoyed it very much, and it followed the original story rather closely, just like "The Convenient Monster". The way I look at it - if Leslie Charteris wrote it, then who are we to judge whether or not this story was suitable for The Saint series or not? The Saint's expression when he first saw the giant ant was priceless, though it looked like he expected to see something like that. And the fight between Simon and Dr. Sardon showed just how insane a scientist obsessed with a crazy idea could get.
