Hi sadat and welcome!  :smt001

Agree with you, this was a very interesting episode and it left you wondering about the ending - was there really such a thing as Loch Ness Monster?  :smt017 I have the original Leslie Charteris story by the same (&^%, and the episode followed it to a T. This story came from the book of several short story collection under the (&^% "The Fantastic Saint" and considered science fiction, which is yet another reason to enjoy The Saint for his diversity of genre.  :smt023 I'll type up the preface to the book, it is an interesting article about Leslie Charteris' work on The Saint, his wish to explore various genres, and how The Saint from the novels got on big and small screen. Make take me a little while to type it up, but promise not to take too long.  :smt024

Thanks. So I'm waiting :)
I love this episode because it is mistery in it- from first till the last second. And the ending is really curious. From first time I saw it I became "The Saint" fan.
It's a real pity that only few of rest episodes was made in similar way...

I find most of the Saint interesting and a fairly good variety of stories. There are some things that are predictable I've noticed .....you can always tell when the "halo" is about to appear above RM during the intro scenes. From RM's look you can tell when he has had enough and about to start a fist fight, lol.

Well, I've been to Loch Ness, and I've heard lots of stories about locals and tourists  who claim to have seen the monster, and even without first sampling the local whiskey too! Could very well be some truth in it all.

Actually I do not believe in the Loch Ness monster...it has been covered over and over and most have come to the conclusion that even though the lake is very deep in spots a large monster would have been found by now if it existed.
On the other hand I DO believe in Big Foot!! Here you have thousands of people that have spotted them covering thousands of acres of dense forests and experts that say it's a great possiblity Big Foots do exist!

I posted the article mentioned above. Actually, the second article was the one I was referring to in my post above, in which Leslie Charteris speaks about creating several stories with fantastic elements. Here's the link to both articles:

What I liked about "The Convenient Monster" was that it doesn't try to prove OR disprove the monster's existance. In fact, it makes you wonder if the woman who used the monster as an excuse to kill her husband, was really killed in the end by the monster itself or something else. She was using the locals, some of whom were ignorant, to create a scary situation where people in the area believed that there indeed was a monster killing dogs and bums on the lake's shore. She came up with a brilliant plan and could have gotten away with it if it wasn't for The Saint, IMHO.

There's very strong evidence that the Loch Ness Monster does exist. Very  reputable people have seen it, and records go back hundreds of years up to the present time.

The main  reason why it has never been caught - and there's supposed to be families of them - is because the loch has many very deep,  murky underwater passages that lead out into other deep lochs. So it can easily escape capture.

Whether it really exists or not, I hope they never do find it, because Scientists will want to capture and  dissect it, and it should be left in peace.

Incidentally, in The Saint episode, they show a short film of what looks like the monster's head sticking out of the water, and swimming along. That  had been shown many times on tv. Only thing, years later, it was discovered to be a hoax!

This story was fictional like all the Saints but I was referring to reality since amber mentioned it.

I watched this episode last night, and apart from what's been said in all the interesting posts above, one of the first things I noticed was how unfriendly some of the people of the Scottish town were in this episode. the girl's father was very rude, Willie was weird and spooky, and the worst one of all IMO was the old lady housekeeper. She was downright scary and over the top rude. :smt074 Usually, I never feel sorry for the criminal in a story, and if it wasn't for Mrs Bastion killing her own dog or Willie, I would have had more compassion for her. Her husband was not only boring, unattentive and clueless, but he also had a roving eye when it came to his secretary. Though he was the target for murder in this  episode, I couldn't care less about his safety. I know lol my bad  :smt003

I thought of Sherlock Holmes Hound of Baskerwille when watching this episode.

The actor who played the husband - Lawrence Payne - had his own children's  tv series around that time, and was very popular. Unfortunately some time later he was involved in an accident, and lost an eye. I don't think he ever worked again.
