What did you like / dislike about The Saint episode "The Wonderful War"? Share most memorable moments from the episode, its characters and actors.  :smt001

I've just been watching this episode again. We see Simon travelling to a mythical Arab country to investigate the death of the man who had discovered oil there. He was the father of Simon's lady friend. We see Simon disguised as an arrogant oil mogul, dressed completely in white, and using a fly swat!  Very convincing he looked  too.In another scene Simon is dressed as an Arab (just like that sequence in The Spy Who Loved Me) as he preaches in the town that an army is on its way to liberate them from their wicked leaders. This is just kidology, because Simon and some friends bring about a revolution using sounds of machine gun fire and explosions. A little reminiscent of the later colour episode The Reluctant Revolution?

My favourite scene was where Simon sword fights the baddies, and we get to see his skill as a swordsman.

This story featured  Irish actor Noel Purcell and Susannah Leigh.



Nobody  smokes a cigarette quite like Roger!



Simon masquerades as  a fictional oil magnate called J. Pierrepoint-Sykes, to fool the Arab leader he is interested in doing a deal with him. I loved these scenes, Simon spoke in a very arrogant  and affected accent, forever flicking his fly swat behind his shoulder. He was asked to sit down on a chair in one scene, he walked over to it, swatted it and said he would prefer to stand.  One time one of the charcters touched his arm to lead the way, and "J" swatted his arm to make him stop touching.

"J" is entertained to a feast and is offered a sheep's eye to eat!





Simon tells a gathered crowd that they must rise up against their wicked leaders, before being chased through the streets, and getting to a "safe house" where his friends are.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting these!!!1 I haven't had a chance to see this episode yet, and it's a wonderful glimpse into what its all about.

Oh, and nice to see that actor who was in "Little Girl Lost". Did he play the same character in this episode?

And final question lol what's that? A bug on Simon's shirt??!!

No, I don't think Noel Purcell played the same character in "Little Girl Lost." What impressed me in "The Wonderful War" he had some very energetic fight scenes, and he was clearly seen to be doing all his own stunts. He was great!

Simon has a rose on his jacket, but the way it has been photographed, it looks like it has bugs legs on the end of it.

I noticed that Roger always seems to excel when "Simon" is being somebody else. I loved his  arrogant ways too, and funny to see him using a very upper class English accent, as opposed to an American one. "Sebastian Tooms " comes to mind.

Ok it has to be said, don't shoot me down, but Roger doesn't do American accents very well!
