Roger may return as the saint?

Postby halo on Sat Sep 09, 2006 5:58 am

I see roger moore may be dusting his halo off to play the saint again, the BBc website says roger is in talks to play one of his famous roles with talks of someone taking over from him as a younger simon templar,it will be set in the 30s,much like the Leslie Charteris novels so thats welcome news, but who would fill the boots of roger moore this time around?.By the way sorry I have not posted for a few weeks but I have been busy helping the official saint website with things, and been posting on the new saint Blog which I am a so called dream team member of,so pop over to it and then come back here to open topics on any news that you may find there, also I have been made a moderator of the saint online,so I have to get things in order and keep abreast of posts, but I will post news I get here along with the official saint website and the saint online, and I am working on my web monthly updates at this moment and once I have finished the projects I am doing at the moment I will get around to making a screensaver and wallpaper for simply moore.and by the time I finish them,it will be time to start work on the saint calendar 2007 for my website,so yes I am very busy at this time, but I hope more people join this forum and get it up to full speed very soon.all the best

Hi Jimmy,
That's very exciting news about Roger and future plans for "The Saint." Good to know that the stories will be set in the 30's too.  Didn't Roger say at one time he would like Geoffrey to take over the role of Simon Templar?

Many thanks in advance for the screensaver and wallpaper. That will be great for Simply Moore, and looking foreward very much to seeing them. :smt001

I hope that Roger's son Geoffrey won't be in any re-make of "The Saint." I wasn't too keen on his performance in "Fire, Ice and Dynamite." He just hasn't got what it takes, when it comes to following in his dad's footsteps.

Hi Jim,

Sounds like you have been quite busy with all the news concerning The Saint. Looking forward to seeing your new work on wallpapers, etc. And thank you for making screensaver for SM.  :smt002

I think that it's sort of a mixed blessing that The Saint will be taking place in the 30's. On the one hand, this is the original LC cencept. But on the other, if Roger is to participate, it's a bit confusing since we already saw him as Simon Templar in the 60's. What do you think? (But then look at Bond, lol, he keeps getting younger with every new actor in the role, while the rest of ther world around him is going in the opposite direction.  :smt003 )

Connie, you have a point about Geoffrey. It would have been nice to see the son follow his father's footsteps, but Geoffrey has more of a Mediterranian look rather than English like his Dad, and though "Fire, Ice and Dynamite" wasn't really a showcase of anyone's acting talents, not even Roger's who also appeared in that silly movie, Geoffrey doesn't have much acting experience and looks like he is happier and more successful running restaurant business. Nothing's wrong with that of course, every person has his/her own talents.  :smt001

A few years ago Geoffrey appeared several times on the British tv magazine show "Good Morning." They had a weekly item whereby a member of the public would cook a meal to challenge a famous chef. Geoffrey and other judges were blindfolded,  tasted both meals and gave their verdicts on whose was best. He came across as a very likeable, good natured and charming man, but you're right Sunny, his talents are best suited to running his restaurants. (He even demonstrated, when asked, that he too could raise his eyebrows just like his dad!) :smt001

I don't understand........Roger will be playing Simon Templar and at the same time some younger guy will be introduced as the Saint's younger version? Like the Saint's memoirs or something?  :smt083

"Contact Music" published something very similar today (see below), wonder if this is all for real? Wouldn't it be nice to keep it "all in the family"? Even if Geoffrey doesn't have much acting experience, the mere fact he is Roger's son can make all the difference to the avid 60's Saint fans. What do you think?

ROGER MOORE's son is set to reprise his father's role in hit 1960s TV series THE SAINT. The former JAMES BOND star told producers GEOFFREY MOORE would be a perfect replacement for PIERCE BROSNAN as 007, but they decided to cast gritty British actor DANIEL CRAIG instead. And 40-year-old Geoffrey is now in the running to play SIMON TEMPLAR, and is "much more talented than me", according to his dad. Roger says, "The rights have been optioned by various companies and are now with Geoffrey and his business partner. Watch this space."

From the updated Saint FAQ:
***
The rights to The Saint are currently under option to producer William J. Macdonald and his partner Geoffrey Moore. They are developing a script for a 90min TV pilot which they hope to shoot in Spring 2007.

As of January 2007, no one has yet been cast as The Saint.

For more news on this as and when it happens, keep checking http://www.lesliecharteris.com and http://www.saint.org
