From "The Fantastic Saint"

Postby Sunny on Thu Oct 05, 2006 1:12 pm

These are the two articles that serve as preface and afterword in the book "The Fantastic Saint", which is a collection of Leslie Charteris' short stories in science-fiction genre. The first article describes the Saint's history and possible reasons why the character has been popular for so long and apeals to people from many backgrounds and nationalities.

But I have a feeling many of you will find the second article more interesting because it explains some of the sci-fi elements in a few Saint stories in Leslie Charteris' words.

Enjoy! Hope the jpg develop okay for those on dialup. (For easier reading, we made these jpg larger than what's normally allowed on the forum.)

Very nice!  :smt003
What are the names of the stories in the book and how many of them were adapted for the screen?

Not sure if LC named the stories the same as the films and TV shows. Was it not a copyright infringement?

Some were named the same and some weren't for some reason.  :smt102

Only one of the stories from this book "The Fantastic Saint" wasn't an episode, which is too bad because it was very interesting, on a stranger side, lol, and that was "The Darker Drink". Others, from what I understand, became episodes.

Here's the info from the book:

"The Gold Standard", 1933, first appeared in Thriller, on October 15, 1932, as "The Gold Flood".

"The Newdick Helicopter", 1934. Originally appeared in Empire News on Ocbober 15, 1933, as "The Inventions of Oscar Newdick".

"The Man Who Liked Ants", 1937 (episode "The House On Dragon Rock")

"The Questing Tycoon", 1954 (episode "Sibao")

"The Darker Drink", 1948, originally appeared as "Dawn".

"The Convenient Monster", 1959
