Autobiography?

Postby Amber on Thu Sep 13, 2007 9:32 am

I saw this article in today's "Daily Mail" newspaper.

I read ages ago that at one time Roger was writing his autobiography using a laptop. Unfortunately it got stolen, and he said he hadn't the heart to start all over again.

Deborah, don't give up on him! :smt002

In the accompanying audio RM gives on the Octopussy dvd, he mentions that people were nagging him to write an autobiography and he said he didn't want to do that, so he started to write a book about his ailments (apparently he was sick a lot as a child)and had gotten up to when he was about 16 then his computer was stolen and he only had a disc with 8000 words on it, whereas on the computer were more words. After that he gave up because he said he was too disheartened to continue. Like a lot of people, I would dearly love him to write one, but sadly, I don't think he will.  :smt009

Here's a thought: Why doesn't Deborah herself write one on him, cos she knows him best anyway?

This article appeared in today's UK newspaper "The Sunday Mirror" by showbiz editor Sean Hamilton.

MUCKRAKER - 007 Moore's £1m to write raunchy life story at 79

It's not for his eyes only...

Roger Moore is to reveal all his top secrets in an explosive warts-and-all autobiography.

And the 007 actor, who turns 80 this month, wants an eyebrow-raising £1million for the book.

Sir Roger, who starred in seven Bond films including Moonraker and For Your Eyes Only, tells of his colourful sex life, his romps with Bond girls (he's keeping their names under wraps for now) and his early years as a male model. And he comes clean about his four marriages, including his decision to leave the first Mrs Moore for older singer Dorothy Squires. He's also written a chapter about his battle with prostate cancer, which he beat after surgery in 1993.

Sir Roger, who also played Sixties TV character The Saint, has told his agent to get a mega-deal for the book, and wants at least £1million.

The agent has been in talks with several major publishers and an announcement is expected this week.

A source in publishing said: "There's a lot of excitement about Roger Moore's life story. Everyone's waiting to see how much it goes for."

The book, which Sir Roger has been working on for two years, covers his childhood - and beatings by his policeman dad - up to his recent work with children's humanitarian group Unicef.

The source added: "This will be one of the great showbiz autobiographies."

:smt003 Looking foreward very much to reading it, if it happens.

Regarding Roger's autobiography - it now seems more than likely this is going to happen some in the near future.

Here's some comments from Roger, taken from the "Hickey" column in the "Daily Express" today.

As his literary agent touts his memoirs to publishers for more than £1million, much-married former James Bond actor Roger Moore has declared that his autobiography, disappointingly, won't be the juicy kiss and tell variety.

"I'm not looking to dish  the dirt or recycle sleaze stories - there is enough of that in the world', he says of the book."Rather, I would like to write a warm, amusing and  maybe even slightly emotional volume that tells my story, corrects some of the inaccuracies previously reported, offers an insight into a jobbing actor and retired 007, and reflects my love of life.'"

Great news about Roger's planned autobiography.

I'm so pleased too that this won't be a "kiss and tell" type of a book, and I respect him for making that decision.

I wonder when it will be completed? Will just have to play the waiting game.

Here's some more news about Roger's forthcoming autobiography:

Former James Bond star Roger Moore working on memoirs for the fall

NEW YORK - Sir Roger Moore, the handsome British actor known for playing James Bond in such films as "Live and Let Die" and "The Spy Who Loved Me," has a memoir coming out in the fall.

"The time is right to tell my story," the 80-year-old Moore, whose book is called "My Word Is My Bond," said in a statement released Tuesday January 15 by publisher HarperCollins.

Moore will not only write about his work on the Bond films, but his friendship with Audrey Hepburn, his encounters with Cary Grant, Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor and other stars, and his struggles with his health.
"For the first time, he will share his recollections of playing some of the world's most famous roles, his fears of serious illness, including his own bout with prostate cancer (which he beat), and how his neighbour Audrey Hepburn got him involved in UNICEF, a charity he is still involved with today," according to HarperCollins.

Yet more news released today. Can't wait for October!

Michael O'Mara will publish Roger Moore's autobiography, My Word is My Bond, in the UK this October, having secured UK & Commonwealth and audio rights from Lesley Pollinger at Pollinger Limited.

The publisher describes the book as a "frank, funny and charming" autobiography, "written with all the trademark style, candour, charm and wit he has brought to stage and screen over his long and illustrious career". The book will also include previously unseen photographs from Moore's private collection.

Michael O'Mara said: "I am really thrilled to be publishing Sir Roger’s memoir. The chapters I have read to date remind me of David Niven's The Moon's a Balloon, so packed are they with amusing stories of Roger's time in Hollywood."

My Word is My Bond is to be published in October 2008, priced £18.99 in hardback.

The deal follows earlier news that HarperCollins had snapped up US rights. Rights have also been sold in Norway, Holland and Sweden, and serial rights are also lined up.

I read somewhere that Sean Connery is bringing his autobiography out around the same time as Roger's.  I wonder why?

I saw a small article in a newspaper recently, just a few lines, saying that it is possible to pre-order the book from Amazon.

Incidentally, didn't Roger's ex-wife Dorothy Squires at one time plan to write a book about him, as did another ex-wife Louisa? Anybody know what happened, and did they ever see the light of day?

Sir Roger's book

Postby Goodnight007.2 on Wed Apr 23, 2008 3:18 am

Hi Solitaire

I ordered Sir Roger's book from Amazon yesterday, cannot wait for it to come. As to whether Roger's xwife Dorothy Squires wrote a book, I think he had an injunction put on it so it could not be published - either that, or she just had an article in a magazine saying she was going to do this, but it never happend - not sure. As to whether Luisa wrote a book, I am not sure although when I Googled her name and a book, it just said she was going to, then she didn't.

You beat me to it Goodnight007.2 I'm off to order my copy of Roger's book today. :smt001

Regarding books written by Roger's ex-wives - well here goes. Kendall, Roger's first wife Dorn was said to be writing a book about Roger called "The Saint That Ain't" but as far as I know, it hasn't materialised yet.  Dorothy Squires wrote a book about her ex called "Rain Rain Go Away" but because it contained material that Roger wasn't happy about, she was prevented from publishing. However she did record a cd called "Rain, Rain, Go Away" and it is said to describe her time with Roger and subsequent break-up, through the songs she sings. I have never heard it, but I think it is still possible to buy  online. Louisa, wife number three planned to write a book called "Living With A Saint" but because their children persuaded her not to, that too never was completed.

Incidentally, anyone heard Dorothy Squires singing? She was a big star of the old school, and was one heck of a performer, who put all her emotions into her songs. If you want to see and hear her, go to Youtube. I even read at one time there were plans to make a movie or tv show about her life! Wonder who they would get to play Roger? :smt017
